My, my, has the mood changed so quickly.

I believe with Butch Jones not many coaches out there will be able to outcoach him next year with this recruiting class coming in (EXCLUDING SABAN).
Outcoaching or being outcoached has nothing to do with a recruiting class coming in.

Kiffin outcoached both Meyer and Saban in his one season at UT. He lost but he shouldn't have been in those games. That was probably the high water mark of his career as a HC btw.

Spurrier is on his way out i believe,
Probably.
Muschump will hopefully be fired at the end of this season,
I HOPE NOT. UT needs him there.
and with RUMOR going around that maybe Saban may go to Texas (doubtful) Butch will shine regardless though!:shades:
So what you are effectively saying is that Jones will only outcoach others if the level of competition goes down? I'm not sure that's how I want things to play out...

No, not at all what i am saying. Butch will shine regardless next year. And once we have Butch's Class in (hell of a class) all will be good in knoxville

I hope you aren't putting too much hope into that.

As good as the class looks, they will still be freshmen next year for the most part. MOST of next year's starters are already on the roster. If you think he will shine then you need to look into what you think is reasonable with the roster that returns.

UT has had classes like that before btw. The 09 class looked great on paper. The '10 class looked good on paper. The 07 class looked good on paper.

I think Jones will do a better job of keeping this class in the program. But he still has to develop them.

The Vols will likely play several new players next fall. This year many are saying that the talent Jones was left doesn't matter because it was developed by someone else and doesn't know his system. The players coming in will have been developed by no one at the college level and also will not know the system.

I HOPE Jones exceeds my expectations in '14. Because if the current roster is a 5 or 6 win roster then I do not currently see the talent and depth returning for that one to be any better... and likely worse.

If you're relying on the incoming class for 2014 then you're setting yourself for disappointment. There will be contributors from this class but there aren't too many BCS schools that play 20 FR and succeed.

2015-16, that's another story. By then the team should be pretty good and re-stocking talent.

I'm not setting myself up for disappointment I don't think. I'm not expecting them to go out and go 13-0 in route to a NC. I just want to see a more competitive team. I just wanna see wins over the teams we should beat and a couple of teams that no one expects us to beat. I wanna see a win over Georgia, Florida and Oklahoma next year. Like i said Im not expecting a undefeated season, but maybe the SEC East.

That was what I said about this year... with a roster that included many talented and experienced players on both lines.

I feel better about the '14 OL than I did. But before going too far down the line... you need to take a look at what UT loses in the D front 7 as far as starters and depth. As bad as those guys have been at times, it is very unreasonable to expect new and inexperienced players to be better. You should especially look at what will be a VERY thin DL next fall.

Expectations of winning the East next year with a two deep loaded with Fr isn't setting yourself up for disappointment?

I believe an 8-4 season in 2014 would be a monumental step forward for this program and staff.

But you say this roster has no talent, correct? You say that what's happening now is reasonable, right?

UT will have 4 and probably 5 new starters on the OL.

UT will have six new players in the DL two deep.

UT will have at least 4 new players probably including Fr in the LB two deep.

UT will lose a 1000 yd rusher.

UT will lose its nickel back and a back up S.

Most new "depth" will come from '14 signees.

An 8-4 finish next year would be a MUCH better coaching job than an 7-5 finish this year... which many of you claim is totally unreasonable.

I don't personally think so. Granted I'm a spectator, never played a down in my life. So take it for what it's worth. Not gonna sit here and pretend i know what I am talking about because i don't. I have done my research however on the upcoming class. I think regardless of if its freshman or not, we are going to see a lot faster class than we have seen in a while. But again, I am not a football guru by any means

There are conferences where you can bring a great class of Fr in and start a bunch of them and win... The SEC isn't one of those conferences.

If you believe a team is going to win anything much in the SEC on the strength of its Fr class then you ARE very much setting yourself up for disappointment.
