1. Any ideas who had the most minutes for us? Anyone?
Renaldo Woolridge, 34.
I don't feel the need to link my thread on the kid from a few days ago, but the kid had 14 points, 8 boards and zero turnovers. Just sayin'.
2. At about 13 minutes to go in the game, we had JP and Wayne with 4 fouls and Syler McBee, Josh Bone, Steven Pearl, Kenny Hall and Renaldo Woolridge on the floor against the number one team in the country. My heart was in my stomach. Would you have ever thought those guys would be on the floor against Kansas at the begining of the year? To keep the lead steady with those guys was an amazing accomplishment.
3. This Kansas team will not win it all.
Well, probably not. The one thing that will help them is a lack of one or two really stellar teams this year. However, they played, and have played, under their abilities all season long. Collins is a stud, but Aldrich should have had a career game today and was held in check by a true freshman. Henry looked very average when he has talent near to John Wall. I simply don't see that "it" factor championship teams have. I see a talented team that will get beat in the Sweet 16.
4. Regardless, this was an amazing win for UT. Despite this, we need at least Cameron Tatum and, dare I say, Brian Williams. Our post depth is nil and playing three walkons and Steven Pearl significant minutes in the post won't cut it.
I can only wish that Pearl sees Hall gets minutes in front of Williams.
5. Player of the Game - Bobby Maze
Bobby played magnificantly. Under control, in total control of the offense, used the high pick beautifully, made great decisions on the break and, most importantly, he did an underappreciated job on Collins.
Collins had 22, but it took him 20 shots to get it and he didn't completely take over the game. Bobby made him really work, which is what you have to do with great players like Collins.
6. Scotty needs to play like this every game. Kansas played right into his game by extending the defense and opening up lanes, which Hopson exploited with his quickness. In fact, this was the first really good offensive game I can remember Scotty having where he didn't get most of his points from the perimeter.
7. Our free throw shooting sucked, but that's something we'll have to deal with the rest of the year. Obviously, they need to work on it. You can't really become a great shooting team in a month or two, though. That ship has sailed on some of these guys (JP Prince) and I will contine to hold my breath each time one of them toes the line.
8. All in all, a great day for UT basketball. There's always things to work on, but, if you take down the #1 team in the country, I can't imagine too many complaints.
