My probable double miss of a call of the week. Play was fast and the on field call was understandable real time. But did replay, especially with some sideline shots not available to me, properly review this call at 2 minutes to go?
Initial catch by AU receiver and the start of a tackle with two defenders hands clearly visible.
Second shot clearly showing the AU receiver down. Is it in joint possession? Probably not when you see the next shot with one defender hand still clearly off the ball.
Great effort by the defender, to eventually get both hands on the ball and rip it out of there, but did he acquire a dead ball? Could the receiver have lost possession, or did it go into joint possession after this? If the receiver had the ball originally as it APPEARS, and he still had possession, joint or otherwise with his knee down, the play was over. Once again, notice the right hand of the defender not in contact with the ball in the last shot.
I wondered real time, just ran the replay now. My objectivity is in question, due to the fact as an Alabama resident for over a decade, both my kids are Aubie grads.
Not sure if I wanted an LSU loss or not, or just as happy this game was in play till the end. Hopefully questioning their own play over being wounded with their backs to the wall will be to our advantage.
What say you with this video evidence. Not enough to overturn probably without those side views clarifying AU possession throughout the play. Bet replay had some. Maybe they did and showed a loose ball before the knee contacted.
Not indicating AU could have done anything with it, but still my jaded view of replay is what it is.
