I've been a college football fan since I was about 15. I turned 41 today. I bleed Orange and am as disappointed at the state of the program as anybody. But I have to be realistic. No Team stays on top forever. Every Team without exception goes through down years. Some stay down longer than others. Heck, there are some who have never achieved consistent success. Unfortunately it is Tennessee's time. But I take joy in knowing that we will not stay down much longer. I believe we hit Rock Bottom after the embarrassing loss to Oregon. It's not hard to see the wide gap in talent between us and the upper echelon teams. But as I look at our future recruiting class (if it holds) I can see that talent Gap begin to close. This season will be tough to endure, next season should be better but not too much. But if Coach Jones is as good a recruiter as he seems to be, we will start to see some fruit in the near future. So for now I'll continue to watch, cheer on the Vols, and patiently wait for better things to come.

Good post. It's good to read something positive and be realistic about the current state of our program at the same time. Negavols suck.

At times it's difficult and frustrating being a Vol fan, but I can't imagine myself being anything else. Grin and bare it !

Agreed. Way to many unrealistic negavollers around here. Good to hear from a realistic GOVOLLER for a change.

We will be back on top. It's going to take a while to build us back up. Till then, we can stay positive. Thx for the positive post. Yesterday, got me into a negative attitude. Post like yours help to pull my head out of my a**.

We are in another 3 year waiting holding pattern......déjà vu all over again.

We are in for another 3 years IF Tennessee can sign legitimate top 10 signing classes the next 3 years. Our main problem is rooted in a depleted roster with subpar SEC talent. The SEC talent that is on the field, leaves early forcing the coaches to play subpar talent or true freshman at key positions the following year. Hence, poor results. Tennessee has got to keep this elite '14 class together, regardless of our record. This, IMO, will not be easy considering this very well could be our 4th losing season in 4 years. Recruiters feed on that statistic and it is a huge hinderance for big time recruits. Well guess what the solution to winning is? Big time recruits. It is like the chicken vs. the egg analogy. What comes first the recruits then the wins, or the wins then the recruits? I am not quite sure the answer to that. Hugh Freeze seems to know...

In the late 90's when we were enjoying a lot of success, Bama was going through the exact same thing. Georgia has gone through it as well. Now we are going through it. It is a little worse for us because our regime changes happened more frequently and a lot quicker. It will get fixed.

I agree with you. Happy Birthday.

just like the difference between a good haircut and a bad haircut is 2 weeks....

the difference between a good CFB team and a bad CFB team is 2-3 good recruiting classes. we started 2012 with some good ones. hold on. help is coming.

for now just gotta support the players we have now. they're people too. they chose tennessee and it can't be easy to lose the game you love and then on top of that have your fans hate you for it. i'm sure they signed up for it and knew what they were getting but still.... have some compassion. they have been through a lot with these coaching changes and whatever issues they have it may not necessarily be talent. if you aren't coached consistently well then you can't develop.

some people are naturally great like CP but those are few and far between. and it was apparent how unprepared he was in route running.
