Here are some of my thoughts on the GA game.

Even though our team got down by 17 points in the 2nd quarter, they didn't give up. Erik Ainge led a brilliant drive that ended in a touchdown before halftime, which I think was very important for the spirit of the team.

Our defense did a lackluster job in the first half, allowing 17 points (7 more came off a punt return). They came alive in the second half, however, giving up only a field goal and forcing 4 turnovers. GA's running game was shut down in the last two quarters, which put the weight squarely on Joe Tereshinski's shoulders. Under the pressure, Tereshinski collapsed and threw 2 interceptions and fumbled the ball once.

The offense performed very well for all 4 quarters. The touchdown before halftime gave us the vital momentum we needed. The second half was an explosion of offense, with us scoring 30 offensive points. Ainge played almost flawlessly. And unlike in the FLA game, the coaches did not sit on the lead once we got it. We obviously had GA on the ropes by the 3rd quarter, and we did not let up.

Special teams is the only part of the game where we did more bad than good. GA ran back a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns and James Wilhoit missed an extra point for only the third time in his career. On the other hand, our special teams blocked a punt for the first time in years.

Overall, our team proved that it is deserving of a top 10 ranking. We overcame a 17-point deficit on the road to win by 18 points. For only the second time ever, a visiting team scored 50+ points in Sanford Stadium. We have now beaten tow top 10 teams by double digits and lost to another by only 1 point. Pretty good for a team that came into this season barely clinging to the top 25.

Well, since this thread fell to the 2nd page and I don't want you to feel left out, I'll add a thought or two:)

1) It was very nice to see poise from our offensive unit after getting down 17. Ainge and the rest of the unit have improved tremendously in a number of areas, but it is hard to believe that this was the same guy that has been (rightfully) blasted for loosing his cool in pressure situations before. He showed real maturity in a very hostile situation.

2) I didn't think our defense was that bad in the first half, but they did step it up tremendously in the 2nd. In the first, Ga's first TD was sparked by an amazing 3rd down conversion thrown perfectly into triple coverage. The second TD drive was spurred by a long 3rd down conversion pass on the sideline that I will confidently proclaim as lucky, even though the receiver made a great catch. Some times bad things happen to good defenses.

3) The special teams were either great or horrible, depending on the play. In addition to the blocked punt, Colquitt punted well, Coker had some great returns, and we bottled them up deep in their own territory on several kickoffs. Don't get me wrong--the bad was REALLY bad, including the two returns for TDs and the missed PAT, but at least the good was REALLY good.

Pretty much sums it up..................

We adapted and overcame. It's called good reads, good coaching, good adjustments, good leadership and maturity from players. We have come of age compared to last year. We will always make mistakes. But how we respond determines just how good of a team we truly are.
