Is how will he be able to recruit. Recruiting wins championships and to me I don't see him being able to out recruit Saban or any of the top coaches. Hopefully he will prove me wrong... GBO

Year 1 no, but he can prove that he is a coach, win some games, get our team behind him. He will out recruit when he proves he can prepare these kids for the next level, he will out recruit when he shows that he is more likeable and is there for the players and won't turn his nose up to the 5th string, treating them just like the 1st. Its shown that players love him, he just has to prove he can coach at this level and he will win them over.

Do you believe he will eventually win "those" games?

"I was watching the 10 p.m. news, here in Nashville and they were reporting about Jones being hired at U.T. They interviewed two different players who were currently committed to U.T."

Both of them were interviewed sperately and they both said.

"Yeah, I have been following Twitter and also the Vols fan web site and I don't care what the fans say, I like this hire"

Guys, guess what? These recruits DO look at the Vols fan website and read what we post........

End of Story.......

No way he'll be able to out recruit Saban or Miles in year 1 or even year 2, but give him time to develop the program. Every top recruit would rather go to a team contending for the NC over a 5-7 team and that's where we're at right now. Let Butch get his feet wet first.

I think he will recruit well and put to rest the myth that Tennessee doesn't have a lot of in state talent.

Tennessee is gonna get good players no matter who is coaching. I like CBJ because he can do more with less and his record can speak for it self.

I hope he proves both of us wrong. Dooley recruited well coming from L Tech considering. Now, with the new facilities we have, I think CBJ can recruit just as well, if not way better, coming from a non SEC conference. :crossfingers: Hopefully...

now that we all know how norman bates' mother feels, we got a new coach, and he might not be a total loser, actually I am pretty excited about this hire given the landscape for coaching hires this turn on the carousel, which we all know so well....just looking at the big picture, I am happy with this hire.

That's not a myth. Tennessee does not have a lot of in-state SEC talent relative to most other schools in our conference.

I read in another thread where someone said their son was recruited by Jones. Said he was pationate and high energy. I think how he said he will be in every TN high school. I know there haven't been many, but tired of seeing guys leave Tennessee and make it big at some other program..(ie Barrett Jones, Hightower)

SEC recruiting is definitely a different animal, but it can be done. Look at Franklin/Vandy. He was just a coordinator from Maryland and according to ESPN's recruiting site he currently has 9...9!!! 4* commits at freaking Vanderbilt!!! CBJ's resume is much better than Franklin's. He needs to be careful about putting together a staff and having some SEC experienced recruiters on it for sure...but it can be done.

the #1 dual threat QB who decommitted from USF likes that jones is now the coach at UT. He was recruited by cinnci. I imagine he will be top priority. This recruiting issue might not be a problem if we land him, bring Tee back and pull a few of the SC recruits as well.
