Why in the world would Tom O'Brien leave BC and go to NCST? That is a lateral move at best.
About two weeks ago, the local radio station had him on for an interview....and he alluded to a couple of things that makes hsi move from BC not so much of an surprise...now a move to NCSU...that could be considered questionable...but anyway...
1. the cost of going to school at BC is considerable. it limits the amount of walk ons he has in any given year, so he doesn't have the greatest pool of talent to work with all the time...the big schools, usually have some walk ons that can play at some point.
2. facilities...BC has nice facilities, but he conceded that it wasn't like some of the schools he competes with.
3. Money. NCSU could afford to pay him bigger $$$.
4. Academics...BC is somewhat limited in who they can recruit because of the academic standards BC has over some other schools. not that that is a bad thing, but from a overall competitive standpoint, he understands that at BC there will be cases out there we he knows he doesn't have a shot at getting some kids in school there period.
All of those things are easeir to get done at NCSU....and at the end of the day, NCSU needed a guy like Tom O'Brien probably more than Tom O'Brien needed to go to NCSU. the program is largely undisciplined, appears to have no real direction and has no real identity. O'Brien can give them all of those things. and as last year's draft proved, they do have talent in Raleigh.
NCSU has more potential to be a real contender at some point than BC does. BC will always be a pretty good team. they will ususally always go to a bowl game and have winning records. but a true national contender? not really.
NCSU has proven in the past that they are comitted to building a solid program as evidenced by their recent investment in to facilities and the stadium etc....
