Napier’s Contract

Sheesh, can they even afford to fire him? What’s his buyout 32m?

Buyout

If Napier is terminated without cause, the UAA will be responsible for 85 percent of the total remaining annual compensation through the otherwise unexpired term, without any mitigation obligations incurred by Napier or offset rights attributed to UAA.

The payments would be made as follows: 50 percent paid within 30 days of termination, the remainder paid in equal installments (12.5%) over four years, with the first installment paid on the first July 15th following such termination and each July 15 thereafter until paid in full.

The article also stated that they had to buy out his Louisiana-Lafayette contract of 3 million. So, they are stuck with him for a couple of years at least most likely.

That said, what is “cause”. Not sure if underperformance is considered cause or not. One thing is for sure, if Napier keeps performing like this, his life will be under the microscope even more so than it already is.

I see what you were asking. If my math is correct, it would be $30.175 million (5 seasons x $7.1 million = $35.5 million x .85 = $30.175). We are already into month 9 for his second year at the helm. So, I guess he has been paid $4,733,333.33 this year ($591,666.66 per month x 8 months). So, basically he is still owed $37.86 million which would equate to $32.181 millionish if they fired him today and paid him 85% of that if my math is accurate.

McDonalds bags are soooooooo yesterday. Coaches don’t have to pay that. One avenue taken away.
They‘ll just have to find violations not involving cash: You know, maybe Napier made a recruit „an offer he couldn’t refuse“ Would explain how he is getting that good of a recruiting class based on such lousy performance

Let’s hope he’s running a clean program.

It’s like everywhere else with the complexity of the laws and rules in a modern society. Look hard enough and even the most diligent and honest person will have inadvertently tripped up on something. To quote Beria. „Show me the man and I will find you the crime“

"bonuses and incentives" seem to be pretty safe from having to be paid out.

Mods, we can get a trigger warning on this thread for the gators fans?
They won’t show up…they only frequent this board when they’re up…which makes perfect sense when you think about it…it is a UT board…now that I think of it…it might be time for me to head over one of their boards and start hanging out…I’ve certainly got plenty of experience on how to act…having watched them for the last decade plus

So if they do want to can him, does the UF AD start sniffing around the program in hopes they can find some NCAA violations. Then follow the UTAD playbook to fire him with cause and throw themselves onto the mercy of the NCAA?
