For all you NASCAR fans, don't forget to go to NASCAR.com and vote for 5 who you think should be inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
Mine were:

Darrell Waltrip (boogity, boogity, boogity, Let's go racing boys!)
Cale Yarborough
Bobby Allison
Richard Petty:eek:k:
Dale Earnhardt:good!:

The first 5 should be Bill France, Sr, Bill France, Jr, Dale Earnhardt, Richard Petty and David Pearson.

At least three of the five should be no brainers. Dale Earnhardt, Richard Petty, and Bill France Sr. should be in the first class for sure. I think the other two I voted for were Waltrip and Junior Johnson.

Exactly the ones I'd go with as well.

I'd like to put Junior Johnson on the first ballot as well for his incredible success as both a driver and owner... but who do you knock out of those five?

Still think NASCAR should expand the inaugural class since there are easily more than five who deserve to go in right away.

Although I guess this way they'll be sure to have enough worthy inductees for several years to come.

I agree, there are so many legitimate candidates that 10 would be a good number. Yarborough, Waltrip and Junior Johnson could all be put in that first class.

I voted for France, Sr, Petty, Pearson, Junior Johnson and Fireball Roberts.

I figure France Jr in next year. I put Fireball ahead of Earnhardt, Waltrip, Yarborough, because I'm biased toward him. I would put Curtis Turner or Tim Flock ahead of Waltrip or Yarborogh or Allison as they will be forgotten soon as the powers they were in the early days. Those who raced against these two are near unanimous that they were the best of their time.

Speaking of Fireball..

About a two years ago, I was at work and a customer came in, she mentioned something about her favoirte number being 22 and I asked her why it was her favorite, she said her "Daddy" use to race cars. Thinking her dad was Joe Blow from some short track in the middle of nowhere I casually asked her if her dad ever "mede it big"

She said well kind of, he died in a racing accident when he was young.

I was curious and asked what his name was.

She said "Fireball Roberts"

My jaw dropped, I told her that he was one of my fathers and mine heroes and that he was a great racer, (you know all the normal crap somebody says)

At the time she was sick and was having a hard time with money and had been listing a lot of her fathers "personal stuff" on ebay, she gave me her ebay user ID and told me to look at some of the stuff.

She had original pictures her and her father had taken at tracks and behind the scenes that were pricessless to a nascar fan, they had so much history.

I got the pleasure of meeting her and her husband several more times since then. And she became one of my best customers.

She recently passed away about a month or two ago from her illness.

She wass a very cool person and it was a pleaseure meeting her.

I would have driven to Florida to meet her wfine. That is awesome. I got Fireball's autograph about a month before he died.

Glenn "Fireball" Roberts, Joe Weatherly and "Tiny" Lund were favorites of mine.

I also liked "Little" Joe Weatherly known as the clown prince of Nascar. He could always be counted on to pull some practical joke on a driver such as a snake in his helmet. A former AMA Nat. Champion motorcycle racer, he was very competitive.

My favorite memory was at the Rebel 300 at Darlington around 1963. They decided to try a F1 style standing start, and Joe in a Pontiac was not considered a threat, but he had a special close ratio tranny put in ala NHRA and blew everyone off and was never caught.

His tragic death at Riverside led to mandatory shoulder harnesses as his head struck the wall when he impacted it broadside. He only wore a lap belt, the only requirement at the time. Window nets were still a few years away.

Bill France Sr., Bill France Jr., Junior Johnson, Richard Petty, & Dale Earnhardt in the first class.

I can't argue with that.

All deserve the inclusion, but I would put one of the early drivers in front of France, Jr. - Red Byran, Curtis Turner, or Tim Flock.

It's hard to take a name out, but if I had to it would probably be Jr. Pearson, Allison, Turner, Yarborough, and Byron would have been my next 5.
