Ok, here's an idea I've been kicking around. How about a NASCAR Legends series? My basic idea for the series would be to be just like IROC.
Let's get someone to sponsor it and make it a 5 race deal for NASCAR Legends. Safe cars, tweak the power down a bit and let the older guys have some fun that can compete. Try to get 10-12 drivers to sign up for the series and get a good series sponsor. Get the sponsor to put up a $2,000,000 point fund. The winner gets $1,000,000 and his favorite charity gets the other $1,000,000. Each race would give all the guys enough money to at least race for something, with the race winner getting matching money donated to charity.
Drivers eligible would have to be at least 45 years old and a non full-time competitor in any major series.
Here's a few names they could go after:
Richard Petty, Darrell Waltrip, Bill Elliott, Rusty Wallace, Cale Yarborough, Donnie Allison, Buddy Baker, AJ Foyt, Geoff Bodine, Terry Labonte, Harry Gant, Dave Marcis, Phil Parsons, Joe Ruttman, Butch Miller, Rick Carelli, Jimmy Hensley, Tommy Houston, Randy Lajoie....drivers that competed in any of the 3 major NASCAR divisions.
Since IROC isn't looking too good I thought this could be a good filler for tracks to use at a race weekend.
Let them run the cars at:
Atlanta
Darlington
Martinsville
Michigan
Charlotte
I know a couple of the tracks are faster tracks but they could limit the cars to where it would be safe and the family wouldn't worry about the guys getting hurt. Just a thought...........
