What has happened to the following drivers over the past 3-5 years? (1) Jamie McMurray (2) Kurt Busch (3) Jeremy Mayfield.

Jermey made the Chase just 4 years ago (I think) and now Jamie McMurray has now come alive. Also, Kurt Busch won the Cup Series just 5-6 years ago and now he's back competively. Is the car/team that has helped or hindered these drivers?
Now Mark Martin has now come alive winning at least 3-4 poles since joining HMS. Is it the car/team?
Of the 4 drivers on HMS, do you think that Dale Jr is lacking something the other 3 have? I think so. It could be the crew chief. Dale Jr is an over rated driver and can win no more than 1 race a year. I'm waiting to see how many of that team gets wins (maybe more than 1) this year.

Mayfield is better than the garbage that he's in now. He got screwed over by Evernham. McMurray was simply overated and was hoisted up for jumping in a championship car and winning right away when Marlin was injured. Busch is a good, but not great driver. Other than a magical 10 race run his career is nothing special.

I have to disagree regarding Kurt Busch. They are one of the most improved teams this year. He got another top 5 tonight.

Look at his career stats. He's Kevin Harvick, but with a championship. Penske hasn't provided him with the best equipment, but this season could be indicative of if he has anything left. While at Roush, he was never the best of the stable.

sorry.

you can't win a championship without being great.

if Kurt Busch is just good, then that makes Harvick look even worse.

Because Harvick doesn't have a 500, a Brickyard 400, nearly another 400, and 2 Nascar titles.

Kurt Busch has 19 wins and Kevin Harvick has 11.

Kurt's consistently been in better equipment. RCR was awful during Harvick's 2nd and 3rd years. It wasn't until they got Jeff Burton that RCR was relevant in NSCS for the first time in years.

pitiful excuse. RCR has 6 Cup titles. Roush and Penske are combined for 2.

Edit: posted while doozer posted.

I'd like to know when I ever said Kurt was better than Harvick? Doozer gets so defensive when reality strikes and it turns out that Kurt isn't one of the 5 best drivers out there. Maybe not top 10.

huh? you said Kurt Busch was basically Kevin Harvick but with a championship. i showed you why you were wrong (as usual). that's all we're debating here. not where some driver falls on a totally objective top 5/10 list.

Er Roush has 2 - Kennseth & Busch.

exactly.

anywho, TNFan07, i thought you quit this place?

I'm glad someone else agrees. I have heard too many people say that Jimmie Johnson is overrated and that he only wins because of his equipment and crew chief. I'll be the first to agree that you have to have the total package to win a championship but that includes the driver too. Kurt Busch is a great driver, one of the best in NASCAR in my opinion. I'm sure the drivers would agree that Kurt is one of the best also.

Except that he has, multiple times. If he's overrated and can't win more than one race a year, why would you be waiting for him to get more than one? Just like they were last year, the #88 will be lucky to get one win as they're currently constructed.

Kurt very well may not be a top five driver... but he's still better than Harvick. Then again, the same can be said for a lot of the drivers out there. If Kurt doesn't lose his mind and leave Roush, he'd already have double the wins of Harvick (almost does anyway) and possibly another championship.

I'll take it on step further, I've thought and still think Kurt is the most talented Busch brother on the track.
