The top ten 2008 money earners with total earnings first and race winnings/salary second in $ millions:*

1, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. - $35 - 12
2. Jeff Gordon - 30 - 10
3. Jimmie Johnson - 23 - 15
4. Tony Stewart - 19 - 10
5. Kasey Kahne - 14 - 7
T. Kevin Harvick - 14 - 8.5
7. Kyle Busch - 13 - 10
8. Matt Kenseth - 12 - 7
9. Juan P. Montoya - 11 - 6
T. Denny Hamlin - 11 - 3.7

A few surprises perhaps?

I'm a little surprised Kyle Busch only made an extra 3 million on top of his race earnings. I guess people don't want him to sell their products.

Also, FedEX must pay real well for Hamlin to only make 3.7 in race earnings and still earn 11 million.

I also see why people want to drive for Hendrick. 3 of his drivers are the top 3 earners in the sport. Driving for Hendrick means bringing home some $$$$$.

I know. I was saying that isn't surprising. None of the rest of the list is really surprising. Denny Hamlin maybe. The absence of Carl Edwards perhaps.

I noticed that. That is really suprising. He won more Cup races than anyone last year, plus he had alot of endorments (Aflac, Vitamen Water, Clariton, etc.).

His sponsors such as Aflac get his endorsement as part of their team agreement. The reason others are higher in off track money is non-team sponsors. Example: Dale, Jr and Wrangler.
