:hi: My first post on this board has to be about my old home town. I recognize Printer's Alley but that is about it. Nashville has sure changed alot since I left in 1989. I get back every few years but not for more than a week at a time.

Green House - For about 3-4 years I was there at least four times a week. They gutter their happy hour but I still make it once or twice a week.

Corner Pub - Nice when the weather is good and you can get a seat outside. Otherwise, it's a little smokey for me.

Springwater - It's been a few years. Do the homeless guys still sit out back in lawn chairs and BYOB?

Printer's Alley - Close to my office. I eat at Sam's sushi at elast once a week. Miss Barbara's karaoke. I need to check out the new bar down there.

Sam's - I lived in the village for a few years when I first got out of school. Between Villager Tavern, Trace and Sam's I never had to walk very far for a good time.

Faison's/Iguana - I guess everyone knows that Faisons has been the Trace for years. Iguana closed a while back and has been several things, the latest of which is a really cool place called Cabanas. Cabanas has a smoking bar up front and a nonsmoking bar in back. It will be open air in the spring/summer.

The End Zone - Last place on Bandywood I would go but they did hook me up when I was underage many moons ago.

The Box Seat - Good food for a sports bar. Probably the one place you are most likely to get in a fight in Green Hills.

Anyone who goes out in nashville probably knows the newer places but I'll throw some old school ones out there and see if anyone cares to share a thought or memory.

Gone but not forgotten:

Cantrell's - The closest thing Nashville ever had to a punk bar, I got turned away as many times as they let me in but it was always a blast.
Amy's - the original one is now part of Sitar, but they temporarily had the Elliston Sqaure location. Best place for cheap draft beer in town in its day.
Rooster's - now Mercy Lounge after beeing closed down for about 15 years and spiffed up a lot. The railroad cops used to chase you if you went out back to pee.
Jule's Bar Car - I am sure that is it something else now but for a few year's there that Soul Satisfaction dance party rocked.
Ace of Clubs - now bar Nashville (unless that shut down). Great shows, great dance parties and always a ton of good looking women.
Irelands - now Nick & Rudy's. I was never a huge fan but it was THE palce to go on St. Patrick's day, after getting your corned beef fix at Jimmy Kelly's of course.
Faison's - now the trace. When they had Iguana on one side and Faison's on the other and everyone crammed into the coop in between it was awesome. One of the greatest late night pick-up spots I have ever been.
Rainbow Key - formerly in Lion's Head. Kind of cheesy, but a great place to cut loose, drink rum and get hit on by 40 year-old divorces when you were 21. Kind of the Johnny's Hideaway of nashville (the Atlantans know what I mean).
The Sutler - great live music venue near Melrose Lanes. Closed recently. I would go there and tolerate the smoke because they had such great music, mostly Americana but they mixed it up a lot. May reopen in the Gulch someday.
Sherlock Holmes Pub - Sorry to see it go. Now where can I get my meat pastie fix?

Alive and kicking:

Exit/Inn - seen some awesome shows there over the years. The new owners just don't seem to be booking anyone that I want to see though.
Goldrush - they sure have cleaned it up, which kind of ruined it for me. What can you say about a place where you could go to the toilet and see Vandy students and "real" bikers sharing lines of coke on a toilet seat?
Villager Tavern - smokey and smelly, and yes it sticks to your clothes so don't start your night there. Eclectic mix of people who love to drink beer and sometimes throw darts. You could sit between a music row executive and a homeless guy and between the three of you (and a few pitchers of beer) you could solve all the world's problems. Anyone else "On the Wall"?
Brown's Diner - I know a lot of people think of it more as an eatery but they have a legitimate bar crowd. Good bartenders and nice regulars.
Bobby's Idle Hour - I have not been to the new one but I loved the old one. Horseshoes outback. Cash only. Beer only. Watch your wallet and your back.
Church St. Pub - oldest bar in Brentwood, used to be the Party Pac. Sometimes they have good music.
Bunganut Pig - the one in Franklin still gets good crowds and decent bands. never been to the on in the 'Boro.
Sportsman's Grille - I like the one on 21st, my girlfriend prefers the Belle Meade location for some reason. Bloody Mary buffet on weekends. Food is always great and gerst beer, which reminds me...
The Gerst Haus - it will never have the charm of the old location but the food is still good, the brew still comes in giant icy fishbowls and they have the oompah band on the weekends. Sometimes you just gotta do the Chicken dance with a hundred strangers.

A couple of my favorites:

Sperry's - little known secret that this tawny Belle Meade eatery has one of the best happy hours in nashville from 5-7 M-F. 1/2 off martinis, and I don't mean the cheap well crap. Call you brand and enjoy.
Mulligan's Pub - one of the few 2nd Ave. places that I have ever really liked. This is a real Irish pub so don't joke about the IRA unless you want your head smashed-in.

Mulligan's is great.

Yall are leaving another good pub...the Beer Cellar, located below Hooters off of 2nd Ave.

Printer's Alley is not bad. Bourbon Street is the best place there.

I have not been to Beer Sellar in a while. Most of the people who I used to know there were part of the courthouse crowd. I guess they will be back in a few more years. That has been a big reason I don't get to 2nd Ave much anymore. Funny thing abou the Beer Sellar is that about 1 out of every three times I've been in there they have to call the cops to come in and remove a belligerent drunk.
