Tennessee Volunteers QB Nate Peterman has hand surgery, out at least 4 weeks - ESPN

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee quarterback Nate Peterman will miss at least four weeks after undergoing surgery on his right hand.

Volunteers coach Butch Jones announced Peterman's injury Monday. Peterman injured his hand in Saturday's 31-17 loss to No. 20 Florida. It was first collegiate start and he was 4 of 11 for 5 yards with two interceptions and one fumble before being replaced late in the first half by Justin Worley.

Jones says Peterman wasn't replaced because of the injury but "as of right now, Justin Worley is our starter." Worley started Tennessee's first three games. Jones says he'd have a more definitive timetable for Peterman's return later this week.

Freshmen Riley Ferguson and Joshua Dobbs are listed as second-team quarterbacks on the depth chart for Saturday's game with South Alabama (2-1).

We'll get to see Dobbs or Fergy in action on Saturday. Let's hope for the best.

I know that it sounds negative, but I feel better about his performance knowing that he was injured. My question would be when did it happen and how long did he remain in the game after it happen?

Anyway the important thing is that I hope that he doesn’t have any complications and everything turns out good for him.

When he's trying to win the job, he's not going to say he's hurt.

I hope the surgery goes well and the fools of VolNation will stop trying to find "funny" ways to make insulting comments about the young man.

Exactly, yes he made a few mistakes but how many FR making their first college start in the swamp have had good days? He had 4 dropped passes, so he didnt get alot of help. Plus not many SR QB's have great games there. Really dont understand people bashing the kid his first college start. Peyton never beat Florida period, muchless in FL. Tee Didnt either. I hope he has a quick recovery and makes it back soon. Hell it wasnt like Worley looked great outside of 3 long passes. He was under 50% had 2 int's and atleast 2 others that should have been intercepted.

Apparently it happened when the refs totally missed the encroachment penalty and Peterman tossed it up and we got called for Off pass interference. Made better by the fact that Verne and Gary kept babbling on about how it was a gimmick play.

I agree. He is a hard worker, and obviously took his performance very hard, if you go by some of his team mates comments.

I wish people would think about how they'd feel if he was their kid, and quit being such asses.

Agreed. That was a heck of a venue for one's first real action.

How can you expect people who think and act like children to put themselves in the shoes of a parent?

I understand that but players know when they're injured enough to effect performance too. He should've popped out of the game and had his hand examined by the trainers. It was probably his single biggest mistake. A QB just can't play with an injured thumb on his throwing hand regardless of whether he wants to or not. Other positions allow you to get away with it but QB doesn't.

I don't think he'll make such a mistake again but now he's going to have to live with being unfairly tarred as utterly awful by everyone and their brother. It's hard lesson to learn and I hope he recovers both physically and mentally from the injury and the fallout.

Does this mean that if Nathan improves 200% next year he'd be 8 of 22 for 10yds, with 4 int's

Could not believe that Danielson thought it was a trick play. He has been watching and announcing for a long time; surely he has seen that before.
