'26 NC QB Faizon Brandon (Tennessee commit)

Fell to 28th overall in the updated On3 rankings, was 10th.
247 sports is the more respected site, anyway. They still have him as their #1 overall prospect for the Class of 2026, although he has fallen to #8 in their composite rankings now.

Grimsley romped over Southwest Guilford 71-0 last Friday and Brandon shined again, completing 6 of 8 passes for 136 yards and 2 TDs while toting the ball twice for 108 yards and another TD.

Over the past 6 games, Grimsley has been effectively annihilating their opponents in the 1st half with an average halftime score of 41-1, so Brandon has sat on the bench for much (if not most) if these games. Still, he's connected on 58 of 68 passes (85.3%) for 1,047 yards and 11 TDs with 1 INT while running for 343 yards (14.9 ypc) & 5 TDs.
On3 😂😂😂🙄

Not taking up for On3 because dropping him when his team is undefeated and he’s still putting up good numbers is a bit ridiculous.

BUT,

Faizon should have double the passing yards and 25 TDs passing. Pulling him out 2nd half of every game is going to catch up to them at some point.

If he were being coached by Tom Knotts (Independence HS) Faizon would have 30 TDs 2500 passing yards 600 yards rushing with another 15 TDs

Faizon dropping at all is joke. It can be debatable that he's not the number one recruit or even the number one QB; however, he has done nothing to warrant a drop that far and loss of 5th star. He has annihilated opponents with efficiency and exceptional stats despite sitting the bench during mop-up duty in the majority of these second halves of games. I rarely post on here, but I had to comment on the bias at On3 for Tennessee commitments. It's blatantly obvious, and it's not just sour grapes amongst the fan base. It's got the attention if some rather noteworthy experts and this particular case is more than just some subjective debate. Yes, rankings evolve during seasons on all sites, but Faizon dropping that much is absurd. Not much justification for it. Punish for performance? Certainly. Punish for being associated with a particular university? It needs to be called out. Again, On3 is a joke.

They won’t say it, but I think because he will play for a “gimmick “ offense at Tennessee is the reason they are dropping him. And David Sanders in 2025.

They have Curtis above Brandon and that’s simply not true at all.

You’re right and it’s annoying

I respect your opinion and appreciate you for sharing why you think they dropped him. I must say it's no better justification though. Labeling an offense gimmicky or any scheme at the next level as reason for changing a recruit's ranking is a total head-scratcher. Though I'd argue the skillset required to play QB at Tennessee is more difficult to find; being a run-oriented first and deep pass, second, offense that demands a QB be versatile, yet highly accurate downfield. But that is besides the point. On3 changing ratings based on schemes at the next level undermines their entire ratings system no worse or better than favortism bias for and against particular collegiate programs.

It will be interesting to see where Faizon ends up on their senior rankings next year. I'd imagine if they continue to drop him, it wouldn't be much more blatant than it already has been. But who knows at this point. I should just let it go. It's quite obvious we have one of the best recruits at the high school level that we could have landed for this Tennessee offense. Now whether he pans out remains to be seen. We won't know for another 2-3 years. There will always be unknowns. Regardless, On3 knows Faizon's new rating has raised eyebrows, even if he's still a junior. Do they care if it makes them look like fools? Is my diatribe here pointless on a fan board? Absolutely. But hopefully they do get some flak and push back in the professional industry/community by other insiders.

On3 had Nico as the #1 player in the country well after he committed. There are plenty of UT players On3 had ranked higher than the other recruiting sites. Thinking there’s a bias against UT is silly

There is no bias per se. But the fact remains that for many years now, more often than not, more players get bumped down after committing to us. It happens every single year. Now are there guys who get bumped up after committing? Yes. But not as many as gets dropped.

Not a very good track record of freshman playing for Heupel
It’s not just learning the system, learning the system and running it at tempo is a lot to ask any freshman. Merk or GMac probably are the guy for Brandon’s first year. Also Brandon will be a young freshman.

A lot of it helps drive recruiting interest, they'll drop a kid that's a locked commit and bump a no committed recruit up that's in a big recruiting battle to drive traffic. Wholeheartedly believe that

On3 has only been around for a few recruiting cycles. I think the sites do bump uncommitted prospects to generate interest but the most probable scenario is that our fanbase focuses on the negative. We’ve had plenty of players receive bumps over the years too. When you’re in the business of ranking players, guys are going to rise and fall. That’s just the name of the game
