'19 NC RB Quavaris Crouch (Tennessee signee)

Adam Friedman post on VQ...

Hey everybody. I spoke to Crouch earlier and will be posting the story tomorrow. He enjoyed his time on campus and felt comfortable in Knoxville. The coaches and Crouch had some good conversations about his position in college and they are building a strong relationship.

We signed Banks
6'2" 220

Got Madre London
6'1" 215

Moved Princeton Fant to RB
6'2" 223

I can't say enough good things about this staff and them trying to manufacture the right identity for this program to compete. We want power in our backfield.

I was sure Crouch was being recruited specifically for OLB.
But I'm not so sure anymore.

IN HIS OWN WORDS…

“It was good,” Crouch said. “I think coach Pruitt is up to something. I think they’ll be able to do something good. They need some work though, but the things they’re doing will set them up. They just need some more players. It’s going take time. Everything they’re doing is right. coach Pruitt’s doing the same things he did at Alabama. He just needs some players to make it really good and have them do something.

“The coaches and I talked about my position and stuff like that,” he said. “They told me they don’t really care what position I play. I told them that right now I’m thinking I’ll probably play outside linebacker and have a package at running back and they were pretty fine with that. They just need players, honestly.

“I was Marquez Calloway and Latrell Williams,” said Crouch. “I hung out with them. Those players are pretty good. I didn’t talk to all the players. I had a good conversation with him Marquez. He sounded like he had the same kind of mindset as me and had a good head on his shoulders. He’s been doing what he’s supposed to be doing. I don’t want to be running around with knuckleheads. I want to be with guys with the same goals as me. Dealing with him and being with him was pretty good. I felt good on campus.

“I have a good relationship with coach Niedermeyer,” he said. “I got to talk to the offensive coordinator, coach Helton. They just got a new running backs coach. I just came in and I’m getting a relationship with them. I sat down in both the defensive room and the running backs room to see how they do things.

“Next I’m going to Florida and Florida State,” Crouch said. “I think those will start next Thursday but I’m not sure just yet. I’m also trying to visit Georgia around the same time but I’m still working on that.”

RIVALS’ REACTION…

Tennessee is pushing all the right buttons with Crouch right now. He is working through the discussions with various coaching staffs about which position he should play in college and taking notes on what each of them have to say. Crouch’s visits to Florida, Florida State, and Georgia next week could prove to be significant as he tries to find teams he fits in with and coaching staffs that have a good plan for his future.

Unless “good” is the extreme of his incredulity? He gone.

I find it a testament that we are in early on one of the top players for '19. Been a while that we've even been considered by top tier talent; not to forget our performance and record last season. It was good getting him on campus, but he wants to win now.

enjoy that feeling. cause that's as good as it will get for a bit.

While he certainly didn't come across as sounding head over heels about UT in that interview, he also didn't say anything negative. IMO it was his genuine assessment.

One thing to keep in mind with this kid is, (and this is just my opinion based on what I've read) he's not quite like most other 17 year olds. He comes across as very intelligent, focused, and aware. He mentioned in a previous article about how he liked the drive through the mountains because it relaxed him. Something to the effect of him having a lot of stress and the mountains calmed him. It's in this thread.

Then in this interview he mentions he likes Calloway because he's focused on the task at hand - and how he and MC seemed likeminded. Mentions he doesn't want to be around "knuckleheads."

I guess my point is, he seems to have a level of emotional maturity that not everyone his age has. It would be interesting to compare his words re: UT to those of other schools he visits. If I read that he thought School X was "amazing" etc compared to just saying we were good, then I'd be worried.

Right now, I'll chalk it up to an intelligent kid who guards his words.

TL:DR version - this kid is totally a Vol

Didn't he also stay an extra day unplanned. That seems like a good thing.

great spot to be right now. Now all Pruitt and staff has to do is win the games we should win and pull an upset or two. Show improvement at every position and give these kids something to look forward to in year two. I am fully convinced that if these things happen, our signing day will be amazing.

Couple of awfully big to huge “ifs”....lotta work to do. Praying that Pruitt is finally the right leader for this program. God knows we’re due.

Would love to have him but I think we all know how this ends, unfortunately

Hopefully in a couple years we can snag some of these guys after we’ve won some games.

There’s a season to be played before the ‘19 class signs. After we go 8-4, many of these recruits will jump on board.

Agreed. No one thinks UT is much of a player outside of this board the UT slanted recruiting sites trying to sell clicks.

Wrong. The kid has visited multiple times since Pruitt was hired. Including a 3 day unofficial visit last weekend. That doesn’t happen if you’re not very interested.

No one should really be expecting much here, but the fact that the no.1 and no.2 players in the country have visited more than once is a significant development. I don't think we were getting those looks (or second looks, anyway) under Jones.
