NCAA Goes Too Far

Boise State should have tossed the rule book out of the window on this one. I'd love to see the backlash the 'AA would have received if they tried to come down on BSU.

Agreed. If the AA tried to impose a penalty for this the backlash would be off the charts.

It sounds more like BSU's excuse for not doing anything than the NCAA stopping them. It is extremely unlikely that the rule would be enforced in this case. They know that.

A similar ordeal happened here in Texas a few years ago. A Houston kid who was being recruited by Oklahoma met an untimely end. OU offered to pay for the funeral but met resistance from other schools who claimed it was a ploy to enhance recruiting in the area and to boost their rating with the kids younger brother who was also being recruited by top schools.

Unfortunate circumstance but essentially brought on by the schools themselves.

Did the Vandy coaching staff attend the funeral of Rajaan Bennett who had signed a LOI. That was a sad situation. I agree with others in that this was one instance where the rule book should have been thrown out the door.

There's a world of difference between that and sending flowers, making an appearance or giving a small gift to the family.
