NCAA Investigates Ole Miss Football and 2 other sports

Would almost have to somewhat. My guess is lose 1 or 2 and don't get most who are on the fence.

The only thing that would make this any better would be UF or Bama in Ole Piss' place.

Looks like NCAA picked at time to announce this that would hurt recruiting the most. After Sunday will not be able to contact recruits. Will be hard to convince the recruits that every thing will be all right. Might have to offer them more money to get them to sign.

Someone should start an Ole Miss thread on the last recruiting weekend before NSD. Let's talk about that.

It's about time. We all knew something was going on there. Hope they get hammered.

Yeah, me too. It really irked me last year when that idiot sports writer from Jackson had the audacity to say that Tennessee would never be back but that Ole Piss would be a national program for the foreseeable future! I hope they blast them back into the early 80s!

Well let's hope they get sanctioned back to reality and irrelevance.

UGA fan on the VQ

TIFWIW,

I get worried calling someone a lock in recruiting. I've heard about plenty of guys like Ray Drew, Garrison Smith, and Trenton Thompson being committed for quite some time and still got nervous reading about them being "open." I've also had someone on staff at the time tell me that Kenny O'Neal committed on his visit only to watch him sign elsewhere. Same thing with Channing Crowder. Tunsil was committed to UGA for a long time before he switched to Ole Miss citing the "gameday atmosphere" as the reason for his switch even though he had not ever been to a game there...I guess he couldn't say it was the 175k and housing for his family.

There are always going to be employment arrangements, collateral scholarships, and stuff along those lines. It happens everywhere, but what Ole Miss is doing is obscene. Greg Little has told other recruits that he is getting 200k and his family has the option to move to Oxford. Nkmediche's dad was offered a job in the cardiology dept. at UMMC, but I'm not sure if he ever took it. It was heavily scrutinized since his dad is not an MD.

Ever since the SEC helped AU get off on "Cam didn't know what Cecil was doing," it has made the west even more absurd. Ole Miss has basically decided to play chicken.

Any Ole Miss recruits decommitted yet? Hell, the day they fired Cutcliff and hired Orgeron (and now Freeze) basically signaled they wanted a coach that would more than test the limits.

Some of their fans are trying to make it sound like the violations happened before Freeze was there LOL. They're insane. Their tackle last year was suspended for taking benefits, and if I'm not mistaken Houston Nutt wasn't the head coach. Mississippi has been finally caught.

Two things. The extent of the violations. Did the accused gain an unfair advantage. ole miss '16 class is currently #3 nationally.

The NCAA is not what it once was and IMO is virtually impotent when it comes to sanctioning the power 5.

From just a quick glance at the postings here, this is the first that I found that has a ring of true intelligence.

And I recognize that truth from the belief that many of the NCAA's rules were poorly written, poorly implemented, and are enforced by imbeciles. However, it could be much worse, IMO, if the NCAA was under the oversight of the federal government.

For those celebrating Ole Miss being investigated? It is them today, and could very well be us tomorrow. These idiots show up at every programs door sooner or later. Personally, I grow tired of reading about such things. It is boring.

These things just take forever. They are a lot like court cases. The longer you delay the punishment, the less likely it is you will get the hammer. They have 90 days to decide if they want to appeal, and then a date will be set with the committee on infractions to hear their appeal. After that hearing, it will still take a while for the NCAA to determine what penalties are appropriate. Ole Miss will likely self-report and self punish in hopes of lessening some of the penalties. If all of that fails, they will toss the track program and women's basketball as far under the bus as they can and I am sure that they will hire lawyers that are NCAA enforcement experts. In the end, they may lose a few scholarships (which could be significant, but that is highly unlikely), they will lose some recruiting visits and they will pay a ridiculous fine.
