Was listening to the Dan Patrick show today and he brought up a interesting question. Since the NCAA now owns the NIT tourny, do you think they left teams like Syracuse out of the Big Dance so it would make the NIT better and more interesting since the big blowout about them not getting in?? It makes sense from a marketing and finicial standpoint for the NCAA to create so drama for the NIT. Interesting theories..

I doubt it... IMO Syracuse simply didn't have a strong enough resume to make it in the tournament. They were very mediocre in their own conference minus one big win, and had a practically worthless non-conference schedule. I can't really argue against any of the teams that got "snubbed" this year. Granted, I can't argue for teams like Arkansas making it in over some others like Air Force, but cant argue against it. As far as which teams got in, I don't have any beef with the committee this year.

I don't know of anybody on the selection committee who would have a pro-NIT agenda.

Also, Syracuse in the NIT doesn't make it any more entertaining for me. I still don't care.

Syracuse's non-conference scheduled was tougher than 10 teams that did make the tourney. Their overall SOS was stronger than at least five with similar records. Syracuse has a legitimate gripe with the likes of Arkansas and Stanford getting at large bids

Another stupid thing about the NCAA is the play in game. What's the purpose? Why should two teams that already qualified for the tourny have to play a extra game??

It may have been stronger, but they still didn't beat those teams.

Just bc you schedule tough opponents, that doesn't automatcally mean credit is due, you still have to beat them. Outside of the BE, they played Witchita State, Ok St., and Drexel...and lost all 3. Their best OOC wins are Holy Cross and Hofstra.

yeah, I think that is the only real beef anyone might have. Because the play in game is not part of the tourney.
