NCAA Open Jobs Thread

Maybe Cal and LSU can work out a trade?

California: Cal released the following statement on Sonny Dykes, “We are still in the process of negotiating an extension with Coach Dykes. He is our head football coach and we want him to continue in this capacity.” Dykes has reportedly interviewed for a number of head coaching openings.

3 jobs filled today and one opening

North Texas: North Carolina assistant head coach for offense / tight ends coach Seth Littrell will be named head coach at North Texas, according to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy. Read more here.
Rutgers: Ohio State co-defensive coordinator / safeties coach Chris Ash is finalizing details to become Rutgers head coach, according to Sports Illustrated’s Thayer Evans.

Syracuse: Bowling Green head coach Dino Babers is expected to be named head coach at Syracuse, according to Sports Illustrated, which adds that the final details are being worked out. USA Today's Dan Wolken adds that the move was set three days ago

South Carolina: Industry sources believe the Gamecocks are down to Will Muschamp and Rich Rodriguez

We may know by tomorrow. Muschamp's 1 million $ buyout at Auburn ends today. He can accept tomorrow at no cost.

Barring a surprise it's going to be Muschamp with Kurt Roper as the OC.

Tulane: According to Nola.com, LSU associate head coach / recruiting coordinator Frank Wilson, Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich, and Baylor offensive coordinator Kendal Briles are finalists for the Tulane head coaching job.

Called this yesterday. Willie has no intentions of leaving and it'll take a special job to do so.

South Carolina: Reading the tea leaves on this one; but fact that Will Muschamp hasn’t been announced yet leads one to believe this is Rich Rod’s job. Thinking Rich might be headed back to Arizona to let his squad know in person tomorrow. Will update when more is known; but feels like this will be leaked / announced tomorrow after Rich has had a chance to speak with his team.

According to multiple sources, South Carolina never offered Rodriguez the job. He was considered a backup candidate. South Carolina athletics director Ray Tanner has his eyes set on Auburn defensive coordinator Will Muschamp. A deal could be announced at any time.

Good coach.

Obviously should have stuck to baseball if he's eyeballing Muschamp.

Update on Muschamp to South Carolina. Source says there's an "agreement in principle" in place for Will to be next coach there.

So does Kiffen stay with Bama?

He'd probably trade his firstborn for the chance at another HC gig.

Sorry Landry, you won't be seeing Daddy again...

Anyway, while his name popped up here and there, you can see there aren't any big schools left on the list save BYU. And even that's a stretch as a "big name." But when you get recruited over by some of the other names that have filled HC positions? It's kind of a slap in the face.

Not that it's any less glorious since ol' Joey Freshwater deserves everything he's getting.

South Carolina: SI is reporting that a deal, while not done yet, is being completed with Will Muschamp to be the next head coach of the Gamecocks. As we reported Saturday, sources tell FootballScoop that Muschamp plans to offer a senior staff position to Travaris Robinson (Auburn defensive backs). More on the hire here. Update> South Carolina has now set a board meeting Monday at 9am to approve Muschamp’s contract.

It would be awesome to see the SoCal boy go to Provo... I would laugh my azz off at that one. He might bolt for the NFL, but other than that, he is staying at Bama
