I was reading an article in GVX and noticed this bit:

UT is a bit hamstrung for the second consecutive year. As per a recent NCAA rules change, coach Derek Dooley can't hit the road recruiting.

So can anyone help me out here and point me in the right direction. What exactly does the rule say? It seems a little goofy not to allow the head coach to get out and recruit.

The way I read it made it seem like first year headcoaches couldnt hit the road. Am I wrong in my interpretation?

Thank you. The way I interpreted didnt make any sense to me. Figured it had to be something else.

Why's it called the "Saban Rule". Did he change the way the game was played w super early face time? This rule affects Texas more than others since Mushamp now can't get out & do in-home recruiting, but they have such a large in-state talent base that he can do late-yr Jr recruiting...they already have 20 commits!

He abused his right to go on the road to recruit by always "bumping" into recruits. Instead of punishing him, the NCAA decided to punish all schools. Definitely not fair.

This is how Texas was getting around the rule with Mushamp doing the work, new rule for this is "Mushamp Rule", just past rule this week that I guess will be "The Tiger Prowl Rule" but was really started by Big East concerning practices like Auburn's limo trips around the state.

Saban is a relentless recruiter, while he was working every day during the spring, Tuberville was reported to be golfing, resting, you see where that got him. Auburn is pulling out all the stops to keep up with him, which worked pretty well this year.
