So now that we have some very legitimate resume builders with wins over #1 Kansas and #2 Kentucky...both of which will be #1 seeds in the big dance... What is the best seed that UT could snag from this point on? We are probably a 4 or 5 right now, and obviously we must win against Arkansas at home...but I think if we do well enough in the tournament (perhaps even win?!?) we could be as high as a 2 or 3 seed. Who would have guessed that a couple weeks ago???

Go Vols!!!

If we win the SEC tourny, MAYBE a 3 seed...... but as for now we will be a 5 IMO.

Even if we win out? I disagree...

We would have to win our last two regular season games, win the SEC tourney, and get some help with SEVERAL teams absolutely sucking it up from here on.

I'm not saying it's likely by any means...but say that happened. It could mean another win over Kentucky and/or Vandy along with several other SEC teams including Miss St. which is a bubble team right now. A number of "top tier" teams got knocked off this weekend alone... All things considered though I would be estatic about a #3...

I'd say a #4 seed, maybe #3 if we win out and at least make it to the SECC game and get some help from some teams ranked above us.

dlew, while I like your optimisim, we need to be a little more realistic.

If we can handle Arkansas, but lose at MSU (haven't played well in tough road games and this will be for Miss ST's tournament lives) and win 2 games in the SEC Tourney we should be sitting right at the 4-5-6 range. And with a good bracket we could get to the sweet 16 easily!

Agreed... This is realistically what will happen. We would easily be one of the top 16 teams with 3-4 more wins...

This year's bracket is going to be intriguing.

I would go out on a limb and say I would rather have a 6th seed because the 2-3 seeds will be better matchups (Oh St, Nova, WV, New Mexico, BYU, Purdue or Kansas St)* for us right now. I can see us advancing further with those draws.

*These are the teams I see getting these seeds (2 or 3).

We would have to beat Miss st, then beat Vandy AND UK in the SEC tourny, and win the Tourny. Hope that another team loses at least 2 more times..... just dont see that happening.. 3 seed at best and that's hoping for alot.

The Bracket Project's National Bracket - 2010

Love this site. Its a matrix of 72 different brackets. Some are updated on different schedules, so not all would have taken account of the win over Ky, but as of their latest compendium of brackets you are top line 6 seed. With the win over Ky, you are probably a 5.

That's not good because we all know the history of those dreaded 5-12 matchups.

I'd say top line you can get is a 3, and that requires basically winning the SEC tourney. Worst is a 6. Most likely is a 5, with a 4 if you make it to the SEC finals.

Not wanting to agree with LG here, but he's right. 3 is the best we can do, and we're probably a 5 right now, with a 4-6 seed being most likely. There are just too many teams in front of us to get any better than a 3, and a 3 is probably only going to happen if we win out.

Nice link, I never seen this one. I want to see it updated. I think Purdue and Duke switch seeds and I think Miss St is in as of right now.

If we're a #4 seed now, who says its not possible to get a #2 with 5 more wins...not to mention the 2 wins over #1 seeds.

Right now, I believe we sit at a 5. Beat MSU and win 2 games in the SEC tourney, we're a 4.

Ok Here are my guesses at every scenario left.

Lose to MSU and Lose first round Vs. LSU - 7 Seed
Lose to MSU and win one game in SEC T - 6 Seed
Lose to MSU and win two games in SEC - 5 Seed
Lose to MSU and get to championship game - 4 Seed
Lose to MSU and win SEC Tourney - 3-4 Seed

Beat MSU and lose to LSU in SECT- 6 seed
Beat MSU and lose in second round - 5 seed
Beat MSU and lose in Semi final - 4 seed
Beat MSU and lose in championship game after beating KY - 3 Seed
Beat MSU and Win tourney (LSU, OMiss, KY, Vandy) - 2 Seed

Just my 2 cents.

I think beating UK twice and once at a neutral site would give us a bump in seed, and then you combine that with beating Vandy and claiming the SECT title would put us in the top ten area + 7 wins in a row.

They've given us a 2 seed for worse, that's for sure.

I agree...I sure hope we can pull that off. I just hope playing 4 games doesn't wear us out too much before the tournament that really counts.
