It looks as if what M Hamilton said regarding any player that was on campus as of 12:01 am is correct per the NCAA. Probably what CEO was telling them is not only avoid class but get off campus. But according to this rule the student does not have to show for class just be on campus the day classes start. So that would indicate that any player on campus as of this morning that tried to transfer would have to sit out a year unless the NCAA gave them an exception.

14.5.2 Conditions Affecting Transfer Status. A transfer student is an individual who transfers from a
collegiate institution after having met any one of the following conditions at that institution:
(a) The student was officially registered and enrolled in a minimum, full-time program of studies in any quarter
or semester of an academic year, as certified by the registrar or admissions office, provided the student was
present at the institution on the opening day of classes

the bold part of that rule means that MH was correct. If a player is on campus at 12:01am the day classes start they are stuck at that school unless they transfer. It does not matter if they show up for class but that they were here on campus. Willis never showed up but players like Miller and James or whoever that were on campus are bound to UT according to that NCAA rule.

Honestly, part of me feels that if these kids want to look around, the NCAA should grant them an exception. Then again, this is the chance you take by enrolling early. It lookds like everyone is stuck between a rock and a hard place.

I honestly think we will ultimately give the kids their release if they don't want to be here. MH is just using this clause to keep them here and committed until we hire a new HC and give him a chance to smooth things out. If they are still wanting to leave after that, if we don't give them waivers, the NCAA might.

How do you police "on campus" vs. "going to class" though? I mean seriously. It needs to be cut and dry in some capacity. If your enrollment is processed, you're in and have to get a waiver/transfer. If you're not enrolled, you can go elsewhere at no penalty.

Or make it where if you've practiced with the team in some way, or *something* that can be verifiable.

No way.

This just does not happen. Tell me one case where a school or the NCAA ever release a player because of a coaching change. I've never head of one. Why stop at the EE's. What about the redshirts, etc... Can't go there.
