NCAA Women's Tournament Selection Show Thread - Tennessee Lady Volunteers, No. 5 seed in Birmingham Region 3

Also, on an entirely personal note, I have ZERO idea what is going to happen with Tennessee's placement in this tournament, aside from what are likely #1 seeds.

That said, hat's off to Caldwell and the team for locking in whatever invitation they receive in tonight's bracket reveal. There have been forty three NCAA tournaments, and the Tennessee Lady Vols have been to all 43. And it was never even in question. So - hat's off for the staff and the players for settling that one early and definitively.

I'm not expecting a great placement but if they are in as good a shape as they should be, there should be gas in the tank for a 2 game series with a days rest in between.

Agreed, and I'd almost argue it's going to be one of the biggest questions this year's tournament will ask and answer. Certainly the most interesting one. All of us here have been focused on if the platoon substitutions will work to UT's advantage in the NCAA tournament, where they play two games back to back and then (if they win) get a week of rest before two more. Some very strong opinions on both side of the fence on that question.

Assuming UT's a 5 or a 6 (which I'm assuming right now), and UT wins their first game, the second round will be the moment of truth. Playing a higher seed on their home court. You win that, you've proven you've got something you can work with. And then you get your big haul in, sharpen the team over the summer, and come back for more.

It's kind of wild. Only seven different teams and six different coaches have won NCAA championships since our last championship.

Yeah, folks like to say parity is greater now, and it sort of is - but it sort of isn't. It does feel like the dam's closer to breaking than maybe it's ever been.

Georgia Tech with a 9 seed 😳

A UCLA-GT 2nd Round game could be interesting.

Ole Miss isn’t hosting. Wow.
Charlie had Ole Miss as a 4-seed - most bracket I saw did. Wonder if that gives us a tiny bit of hope for hosting...otherwise Kansas St. or Alabama or Maryland (Charlie's other 5 seeds) probably got bumped up.

I figured if we got a 4, Baylor would have to get a 5, and they didn't.

Neither Ole Miss nor Bama is a host.

Did we pull a host spot out of our ass despite leaking oil down the stretch?
