Right now, The Irish have the 97th ranked defense in the country. I have heard several on here post there is no way that we will beat them.

Sounds to me like the 97th ranked defense in the country is exactly what our offense needs. Just wondering why some of you think we cant beat the Irish?

Considering that the Vols will now employ a more conservative offense, I-formation, double TE, etc. I fully expect the Vols to eat clock, keep the defense off the field and win the remainder of their games. They've played 4 of the toughest defenses in the country and ND comes no where close to being as good as any of the 4 ranked teams that Tennessee has played. Even Florida with Meyer's offense would beat Notre Dame.

They are 27th against the rush, 114th against the pass.

Sounds to me like we are gonna have to throw it.

No, just take those 330 lb linemen and run straight at them. We have tried that yet all year and I think it might just work.

Really though, sometimes stats are deceiving.... if they are 114th against the pass, then teams don't even have to try to run. Its not that they are really 27th against the run because they are good... its because they suck so bad at pass defense.

Good point... I don't see any reason in the world why Tennessee can't beat Notre Dame. Besides, it REALLY messes with the BCS if they do. :devilsmoke:

stats are deceiving..I dont know if you watched the USC game, but they did a really good job against the USC rush game, and that's saying a lot. Yea they had a hard time against Reggie Bush, but honestly what team in the country wouldn't? Besides that they disrupted the reigning heisman award winner's rhythm basically the whole game , and they limited Lendale White who could start for any team in the country and rush for over 1,000 yards to 2.9 yards a carry. All in all I was really impressed with the way their defense played, particularly their defensive line, and I think their defense has continued to improve every game. They have some great wide-receivers (Smarzjida is an all-american), a heisman candidate at qb, and a solid RB in Darius Walker. They also have a really good tight end in Anthony Fassano and don't forget that Georgia killed us passing to their two tight ends. Our championship caliber defense will prevent this from being a blow-out but I wouldnt be suprised if we lose this one by 14+

Can I get a hit of what you are smoking?!?! I'd be out for DAYS. The only way ND puts up 24 points is if our O gives it to them. No way this D gives up more than 17... on a BAD night.

USC??? They gave up 160 yards to Reggie Bush, on only 15 carries. And USC is no where as physical up front as UT is.

I don't know, the way we looked against Georgia...makes me wonder. Brady and the boys are far better than Brodie and the boys. That said, I don't think it matters. If ND scrounges up two safeties they'll have a safe enough lead. :mf_surrender:
