Hard to compare apples to apples, but he's gonna have a lot more talent to work with than at ND. The question is and always will be...does he have the trigger man to make it all work at bama?
Ty Simpson is no slouch.
The kid from Houston is a physical freak but he's not a real QB.
Thought Tayven Jackson was better than Simpson.I thought Simpson was a bit overrated as a recruit, from what I saw. He definitely has upside and tools, though, so he can be developed. In that sense, I saw him as more like Tayven Jackson than a 5*.
Rees will get a chance to show if he can be that QB developer right away. It doesn’t appear to have happened with Simpson last year, given that he was behind fellow freshmen Milroe, who is not much of a passer.

The high octane stuff they had been running since Kiffin and especially with Bryce Young had me doubting his chances. He’s well suited for the scheme Notre Dame’s been running. But Bammer fans might not enjoy the product as much as Saban.I thought Simpson was a bit overrated as a recruit, from what I saw. He definitely has upside and tools, though, so he can be developed. Honestly, Saban + staff need to be looking to improve in areas other than QB so they don't have to rely so extensively on a good trigger man. Their O-line needs to be better, they need a WR who can plausibly stretch the field, and their defense needs to be better. They put so much on BY this year.Hard to compare apples to apples, but he's gonna have a lot more talent to work with than at ND. I wouldn't say Ala has a lot more talent..ND consistently finishes top 7-10 in recruiting every year. This isn't a hire that scares me in the least. Everything I've read says his offense and playcalling is very predictable and bland. Really surprised by the hire but no complaints here on their new OC or DC.
There is a huge gap in the top 5 and the next 5. Bama brought in half as many blue chips in one class as notre dame has total. And considering they brought in 9 5 stars and notre has a grand total of 2, I would say Bama stars are higher ratedI wouldn't say Ala has a lot more talent..ND consistently finishes top 7-10 in recruiting every year. I think they finally got to the point where not every 5 star freshman was a ready ALL-SEC level contributor. They still have the talent it just wasnt "clicking" as a team.Everybody talks of the Alabama “talent” but watching them this past season Young, Gibbs, Anderson & a couple others were their only real difference makers. Their OL or DL wasn’t anything special, nor were their WRs. That wasn’t the case just a couple years ago.
And they desperately NEEDED to bring in Gibbs and Steen (two NON-5 stars in high school) to mount the season they did.Everybody talks of the Alabama “talent” but watching them this past season Young, Gibbs, Anderson & a couple others were their only real difference makers.
