Pathetic..
This is a prime example of why employees need collective bargaining rights.

Below is what Haslam says.... He is an idiot.

Haslam issued a statement saying there are a number of factors that determine whether Tennesseans can participate in the food stamp program.

“The governor and administration continue to be focused on hiring and retaining the best and brightest to work in state government, and certainly pay is a piece of that puzzle,” the statement reads.

I don't understand your reasoning. And what is the link about?

No link but my guess is that 1000 state employees are in single family household and receive food stamps based on number of kids.

Do you think it okay for someone to work full-time for the state and still qualify for food stamps?

There should be no Unions in the public sector, Period! Maybe if they hadn't bargained for unsustainable pensions that are not congruent with the private sector for those that are retired then there would be more funds on hand to pay the current public workforce a better salary and get them off the government tit.

Sure but that may be a problem with the food stamp program as well.

I'm not sure why the state should not have minimum wage jobs - what is the logic that says they should have to pay more than minimum wage for some jobs? Also, I bet even the minimum wage jobs have nice state benefits.
