LINCOLN — As true freshman Adrian Martinez on Monday met the press as Nebraska’s starting quarterback, the man he beat for the job, Tristan Gebbia, appeared set to transfer.

Gebbia did not practice Monday, coach Scott Frost said, and he was no longer enrolled in classes according to the university registrar’s office. As of Monday afternoon, Frost still wanted Gebbia, a redshirt freshman, to stay, and an NU official called the situation “fluid” amid reports of Gebbia asking for his scholarship release.

Or someone who didnt want to be a backup qb for 3 or 4 years.

That's understandable but seems like he should have just stuck it out this semester then transferred. To quit the day after you aren't named starter right before the season starts is pretty bad. What if the other guy gets hurt the first game, or does terribly and he gets his shot?

His actions are pretty short sighted.

I don't know anything about the young man but if it was dead set on transferring it is a smart move to do it now. He can enroll somewhere else right now and sit out this year and play next year. If he waited a semester to transfer he would not be able to play football next year.

If he's leaving now it's probably obvious to everyone, even himself, that he'll never get the starting job.

Gebbia was a fairly highly recruited guy...had offers from several big schools according to 247, including Alabama. I've never heard of him until now, but it seems like he'd be able to start somewhere else. Leaving this quickly after not winning the job seems a little petulant, especially because highly-touted guys like Jalen Hurts and Jacob Eason seem to have handled similar situations better, but I can't fault him a whole lot for wanting to leave. Probably stung him quite a bit that he was recruited by the old coach, redshirted last year, then a new coach comes in and makes one of "his guys" (a true freshman) the starter.

Huh, no mention that Martinez was a UT commit and Frost cherry picked him during the coaching quagmire.
Imagine the QB competition if he were here instead of Chryst.

He'd leave if he didn't get the job. Don't know what school will take him since season has started
