I'm no guru whatsoever but I expect a good, solid team this year and to make AT LEAST the second round of the tournament.

Expect a team that plays with a ton of heart and shows consistent effort for every minute they're on the court. Expect for this team to be playing their best ball down the stretch and towards tourny time. This is a team to expect in the tourney and a team that personally I believe can challenge kentucky/florida for tops in the east. I said challenge not win, but I don't think that is out of the realm of possibililty if we stay healthy. CM has showed a commitment to playing the game the right way and I think that will pay huge dividends this winter/spring. GBO

No guru, but follow the team enough to have an educated opinion...IMO.

I said a few weeks ago I expect a top 4 finish in the SEC...that'd earn us a bye in the SEC tourney. From there, a 7 seed or better in the NCAA tournament, and at least one win, but I predicted 2, meaning a sweet 16 appearance.

However, with the news on Maymon, and it looking more and more like hell miss a lot of time...those expectations obviously need to be subdued slightly. Assuming Maymon returns in a reasonable amount of time, i still think top 4 in SEC, but maybe 9 seed r better in NCAA's, and still probably expect a win.

If Maymon isn't going to be able to make it back anytime soon, Cuonzo needs to let the cat out of the bag, so we can temper our lofty expectations of the team and get a fix on just how good we'll be. With Maymon, the sky's the limit. Without Maymon, not so much.

Why does it matter what our expectations are? Our expectations as a fan base have no bearing on the teams actual performance. I don't see how CCM has any type of obligation to let the fan base in on what should be a private matter between Maymon and whomever he wishes to share it with.

Offense
A lot different than last year. I expect a more interesting half court offense with more complexed sets that feed the post a lot more. I think Golden will be a lot more relaxed and comfortable leading this team and handling the offense. If Martin simplified our offense last season, I think a full season is plenty enough time to open it up and see exactly what he's going to do because nobody predicted Maymon would be the beast he was or that we'd have Stokes hanging around the paint midway through the season. Our bench is plenty deep enough to offer enough healthy competition to see special things.

Defense
I don't expect anything different. Our Defense caused havoc last season, holding plenty teams below their average. I think we see the same smart and energetic play that we got use to seeing last season. I think we are still a grind it out defensive team. The biggest difference this season is going to be our post IMO. I think Stokes establishes himself as a really good shot blocker and challenges a lot more than he did last season. Also, help defense should be a lot better Yemi won't be as raw and Hall has another year under his belt so hopefully it shows.

Overall - I really think Maymon hurts but not nearly as bad as some think. I never looked at Maymon as one of our strongest defenders and we have plenty of firepower on offense. He'll for sure be missed in tougher games but I think we'll be okay. This is a team that hasn't lost much and will only get better. They've been through the SEC schedule, played tough on the road, been embarrased, exceeded expectations and then turned around and disapointed folks...pretty much..they've grown up.

Should be a VERY fun year!!!!

Not sure what you're looking for exactly, but if you want a player by player look at the team (at least the significant ones). Search for zjcvols' threads in this forum. He has done some very nice breakdown on individual players.

I'm right there with you 8-10 seed in NCAA. Top 3-6 in the SEC. Maymon's injury recovery is key.

Because we need a palliative after our football season turned out so lousy when everyone was expecting it to be a turnaround year. Inquiring minds have a right to know if a key player will be out for an extended period of time or not. We know for certain that Derek Reese is not going to be available this entire season. Why can't we be just as informed on the condition of Maymon - a player we're much more concerned about? All I'm asking for is a definitive answer. Enough of this beating around the bush!

So you didn't learn your lesson by getting your hopes up about football so you want to give it another go around with basketball? Why not just let the thing play out?

If we can't compete with an again overrated UF team, we'll have a very disappointing season.
Overrated... Until the NCAA tournament.

We'll struggle early on, though. Our starting PG was suspended indefinitely today, and our possible starting SF has had two concussions within the past week. :banghead2:

Any clue what the kid did? Florida will be plenty good this year.

Cuonzo has told you 3 to 4 weeks last Monday. He can't go into exact specifics of what is wrong with Maymon. Only Maymon can give that info according to HIPPAA law.

Then he's misinterpreting the HIPAA privacy provisions. They're not as strict as he wants us to believe. It's college basketball, not national security. There's no need to give detailed specifics of the injury in order to give a specific time limit on how long he'll be out. That's all I want to know. We already know he has a knee injury. What's wrong with giving us the down low on how long it'll keep him out? The rules are no different for Maymon than they are for Reese, et al.
