For years I have used Microsoft Works but since I got a new computer it no longer includes it for free.

So I was wondering if anyone knows of a good one that can be got for free download online.

I came across one called "Apache OpenOffice Writer" that looks to be what I need. I was wondering if anyone was familiar with it or something similar.

I used it for spreadsheets when I didn't have MS excel. For a free program, it's pretty good. Never used word in it.

Google Docs?

Apple gives you Pages, numbers, and keynote for free.

Open office is good and you can save/open files in Microsoft office formats.

Open Office is difficult to get the hang of at first, but it's pretty good. I usually just use Google Docs when I can because I can access it from anywhere.

Open office is good, especially if you do most or all of your work off line. But Google Docs gives you advantages in that it saves automatically and your docs are available anywhere, even if you are away from your pc.

You might look into WPS Office. I have never used it but I have heard good things about it.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I tried out Google Docs and it serves the purpose for now.

I basically just needed something better than "Notepad" or "Wordpad" to write some reports etc.. and I needed something with spell check.
