Ok I'm throwing in the towel, its time to give up my old flip phone and move into the 21st century.
I have never owned or bought a smart phone before and after doing many google searches on what to buy I think I am even more confused.

I hope someone can help an old guy out, here is what I want .

1. Cost 300 or less
2. Unlimited or near unlimited internet access no matter where I'm at.
3.Good storage for apps and what nots.
4. Decent speed from both the internet access and the phone itself.
5. Has a decent camera, for both stills and video.
6. I only want to pay about $50 a month or pretty close to that.
----------------------------------------------------------------

Now what I don't want...

1. No contracts (so I'm guessing some sort of pre paid deal)
2. I'm not big into texting so that does not matter.

That's all I can think of atm, I don't even know if what I posted above is possible, anyone care to help me out?

Buy a IPhone of off ebay or craigslist. Then go through Net10 or H20. I currently have H20 & pay 60 a month for unlimited everything

Your #5 can't happen is you're serious about #6. You have to pay a little to have a decent phone. That usually means a contract too.

Not true . I'm not on contract and I get 4g unlimited internet & text for 60$. I paid 80$ for my IPhone 4S.

You've basically listed what everyone would like to have. You are going to have to sacrifice something to get most of that.

1. To meet your other criteria you are ging to have to go the used route.
2. Good luck with that on a no contract carrier. Usually those carriers are not as reliable. Maybe try T-Mobile.
3-5. iphone or Samsung Galaxy meet all of these. Samsung has expandible memory. I have a 16GB iphone and only run into storage problems about once a year. There is a Nokia Windows phone that probably has the best camera on a phone but I cant remember the model #.
6. There are plenty of no contract carriers out there but you are sacrificing reliability amd coverage. So depending on what your definition of "anywhere" is in #2 its something to consider.

Anyone who's talking about puttinga smart phone on a prepaid network is crazy.

Do yourself a favor. Go with a contract through either att or Verizon. Both have good 4G areas but Verizon has a larger market.

If your new to smart phones and want something that is easy to use the go with an Iphone. If you like to customize and like more control then go with an android.

Think about this. You wouldn't put a high dollar paint job on a rusted out mitsubishi truck. So why put a $600 smart phone on a pre paid network.

If the priority is ease of use Widows phone is the clear winner. Not sure if app availability is still a significant issue, I don't have one

While many would recommend iPhone as an initial smartphone due to the simplicity and limitations of its OS, Android has grown by leaps and bounds over the last 2 years in regards to its ease of setup and operation, as well as the general appeal of its UI. That said, I would strongly recommend either the Nexus 5 or Moto X (Moto X having another flash online sale at 3pm eastern today while supplies last). Both have solid hardware, adequate cameras, 32GB storage options (with various cloud storage options, that's plenty), lower prices than phones with similar hardware (and WAY lower than iPhone), and are available with almost any carrier (minus Verizon for Nexus 5) on or off contract.

The Nexus line is pretty much a Google device (vanilla Android, no bloatware - hardware designed for the software), and the Moto X (Motorola now owned by Google) is not much more than stock Android (but the proprietary additions are really, really nice). Both will receive timely OS updates - the Nexus line is usually first, but the Moto X has been right there with it for the most part.

My son just picked up a Samsung Galaxy 4 with T-Mobile with unlimited data, talk and texting for $70 bucks. He's paying for the phone on installments so it added $20 to his monthly bill. There is no contract so if he drops the service he'll have to pay off whatever he still owes on the phone.

However, if you go with Virgin Mobile you can get unlimited talk, text and data for around $40/month. The difference is you'll have to buy the phone out right at the start. They have a decent range of phones in the $150-$300 range. I would check them out if I were you.

I don't recommend going with an IPhone, but that is just a personal preference. If you use a Mac, you probably want to look at them. If you are primarily a PC person, I'd go with an Android based system.

ESN could initially be clean, but buyer beware because you may very well end up with one where the ESN locks after a week after purchase. Only buy from legitimate sites.

I always take the phone to the selling store AT&T or Verizon and have them run the Esn. Just gotta know what your doing.

For what it's worth. I have a Galaxy s4. Really like it. No problems at all and all day battery life.

Sign up for AT&T and buy a Nexus 5 from Google. You should be able to go no contract with that phone, but I'm not 100% sure.

There will be a learning curve no matter what you buy, so be patient.

Go here, This is the future. Moto X Android $299.00.
No contract, unlimited, plans from $5.00, $10.00, $25.00, $40.00.

I have two phones, each on the $10.00 unlimited plan. Works like a charm. Best decision I've made in sometime.
