I go to a game once a season, but usually tailgate. Not able to this time.... We are parking in G17. What are some good eating options around that area?

G17 is just one block from Cumberland. We have stopped by Saloon 16 for lunch on the way to Neyland many times. Great pregame scene, good (but overpriced) food and drinks. There are many other options right there on the strip.

Alternatively, the huge adjacent grassy park will be full of tailgaters for you to make friends with :). If we were tailgating, I'd invite you! I'll be on a golf getaway and will just make it over before game time. There's a good chance we will eat at S16.

Are you looking for a sit-down meal, or just decent food. If just something to eat, the stadium opens 2 hours before and you have a wide selection in the west concourse from Calhoun's BBQ, to Petros, to K-Town Dogs. A mentioned at gate 11 they have a couple of food trucks that vary from game to game, along with a Truely Truck. Grab some food, go to your seat (or somebody else's with better view) for pregame warmups and such.
Another option is to join the Volunteer Club at the checkerboard level and attend their tailgate.

While walking through the Student Union last weekend prior to the game, I noted they were advertising a burger/fries + drink combo for 6 or 7 bucks. It's not haute cuisine by a long shot, but it is an option depending on what you're seeking. In general, I believe the food vendors in the SU are open till kickoff or shortly beforehand.

Pretty decent grub at the Vol Village…or at G17 it’s not *that* far up to Cumberland where some of the restaurants have survived the purge.
If you do stop by Vol Village, visit the D1 Training tent because we're getting folks signed up to with some signed UT merchandise. We're giving away a signed Rick Barnes basketball and a couple of signed Tony Vitello baseballs.

It’s a little bit of a walk, but a nice walk, to Market Square downtown where there are a lot of options. Since it’s a night game and you might have plenty of time, if you are up to it, it is worth it and not as crowded. It’s Knoxville so there are lots of hills!

Thanks for all the feedback. Actually looking for a sit down environment around 2:00 or so

If I were you, I’d walk to Market Square. Its about 1.5 miles and will take you by the student Union (and Vol Shop inside). It’s an easier walk if you go up one block to Clinch before crossing into downtown.

Once there, I’d recommend watching at Stock & Barrel, Soccer Taco, or Tommy Trent’s.
