Needing Help

I don’t know where you live, but if you’re close to a dental school (often in same university setting as a medical school), you can get affordable care there, although often with long waits. Care directly given by dental students with licensed dentists providing oversight.

Another possibility is a medical charity organization, for instance Church Health in Memphis: Dental Clinic | Church Health

I live in Anderson County, but certainly willing to travel. I called my local health department and they told me they would need me to call back October 1st. Definitely expecting long wait times. In the meantime I got an emergency appointment today at 3:30 to see if I can get some antibiotics at least.

Thanks for the info. I've thought about the dental school route, not really sure where there is one close to me. Closest to UT, but there might be other schools who do this.

I'll be - LMU has a dental school in Knoxville, looks like around where St. Mary's Hospital used to be (don't know if there's anything there now or what it would be called.

Don't know if they have a dental clinic, though.

It is over a month away, but Remote Area Medical has a clinic scheduled in Morristown on September 20-21. I doubt you want to wait that long but it could be an option. I pray you get the help you need.

Have you considered Mexico? It isn't as uncommon as you might think, people going to different countries to have medical procedures done. Healthcare for people like you is awful in the US. I really hope you get the help you need. I have a sister who has bad teeth and I dread the day that I know will come she will have to ask for help. I'm glad I learned my lesson in my early 20s about dental care. Good luck my brother.

Also consider a go fund me. VN will help a brother out. It probably won't be thousands but it could help.

You mentioned that you live in Anderson County. The same group as above plans to be in Clinton in early Nov.

Could be useful if you need follow-up to your immediate health issues. Good luck.

When I was at the clinic yesterday to get antibiotics, one of the nurses told me her husband was going through the same thing and that she also had a couple of teeth that were starting to decay. I told her, look at mine and consider your future. I stopped doing a lot of the unhealthy things I've been doing, even if it is too late for that. I wish I took better care of myself when I was younger like you did. I was very self-conscious and insecure about myself - I really didn't love myself and so I didn't take care of myself.

I thought about making a go fund me, I just didn't think it would get much attention. I feel like a burden to my family and don't really want to be that for society either. I don't have disability or anything. I'll make one though and see how it goes. Anything would help really. I feel bad for my mom having to shoulder my burden because next year she is likely going to need a pace maker and that's going to cost a lot. (Though my teeth would as well considering I'll most likely be getting them all removed and then need some replacements.)

I go Monday to sign up with InterFaith. I talked to them on the phone today and it seems they will accept me. They still want me to pay 10% of whatever procedure I'm having, which given our household income should be pretty cheap. I just don't know how much I'll end up paying and they may even send me to a specialist. Might have to wait a couple of months, but that's okay.

My friend from the Philippines also suggested I come there because of how cheap it is. I suppose it is more common than I thought.
