Rachel Sander. Not sure if she is working with Varsiry or Novice. UMiami grad. Four year letter winner. Coached at Nova Southeastern U the last two years. Won the 2013 Div 2 NCAA title.
Replaces Twedt who went to Montana to hike. Something like that. Knew that Twedt was leaving but didnt know the replacement

Hopefully this gets Rowing back on top and into NCAAs where they belong. Second place sucks.

I'm going to try and follow them this year B ill, when does there season start ?
Fall season (5k races) starts up as soon as they get back. First Regatta is in October and it usually goes Chattanooga, Boston, Oak Ridge, Chattanooga, which takes them into November.

Spring season (2k's) start in March, and go through May.

Here is last years schedule. This years will look pretty close to the same

First practice is the 19th. The girls should all be working hard this summer so they are ready to roll. They will stop workouts around Thanksgiving, and then pick them up again right after Jan 1.

My kid needed to get stronger this summer, so shes been working out twice a day since she got home. Hopefully it pays off for her. She is pretty stinking competitive, and determined.

We might have to have a VN tailgate at one of these things, hahaha, would be a great excuse to gather!

The home course is Oak Ridge. Im not sure how long it has been that way, but it is a great spot to watch rowing.

Chattanooga is also a great place, but yeah...sucks to have to drive there.

There is usually one event, the first of the Spring, at Lake Loudon. Im not sure if it is always against Minnesota, but that is who it has been against the last couple years. It is part of Minnehaha's Spring Trip. They train out of our boathouse and then we race at the end of the week. This past Spring, it was snowing!

Streaming would be awesome. Im not sure they want to invest that kind of money, but it would be awesome. I will see if I can get anyone on board with the plan.

I will pass the Go Vols on to her!!! She knows a little about this site, but I have warned her that it is not a safe place for an athlete until after they graduate. haha. She is just as obnoxious as the rest of us, so someday she will fit in here just fine!!

Thanks!

thanks for all the info Bill,it would bring a lot of attention to the sport if they streamed a couple of races, there bound to have the equipment to do it,they have it for softball and baseball, and I'm sure some students would love to be in front of a camera for a UT event, there has to be some way to do it and it is good to know your daughter is as obnoxious as the rest of us lol get her and some of her team mates to post a little on here,it might get some more interest up for rowing and good luck to them.hope they kick some row boat ass :D

I know the BigTen Network shows rowing. Maybe the new TV deal that the SEC has will help get some of the events on TV as well. That would be pretty cool. I will work on it.

And yes, time to kick some row boat ass!!

Maybe I will see you around the lake some. My daughter is a coxswain for ETRO in Maryville. I know we overlap with colleges in Chattanooga at Head of the Hootch. I was amazed at how big the UT girls were.

The home course is actually Lake Loudon in front of the boathouse, but the Henley Street Bridge project has made the normal 2000m course unusable during construction.

Until bridge construction, the program hosted 3-4 meets at the boathouse, and will return to that schedule when work is completed.

Oak Ridge is known as one of the top 3 courses in the country. Chattanooga has several great areas for courses, and their local community does a great job organizing the fall events, which are basically open amateur events that some colleges compete in.

Thanks for the correction. Since I have been around the program, it has always been Oak Ridge. Didnt mean to step out of bounds on that one.

When is the bridge work due to be done? Would love to get events back to campus.

Im not sure who was considered. I would like to think that Laura Miller was at least given consideration. My daughter thinks very highly of her as a coach, so do many others.

Laura has accepted the 2nd assist. job at Old Dominion. That will be a great start for her. Maybe she will return someday as an assistant with UT.

The Tennessee Boathouse, a three-story building on the banks of the Tennessee River across from Neyland Stadium is home to the Lady Vols rowing program.

UTSPORTS.COM - University of Tennessee Athletics - Facilities

That is a great facility. I have heard many compliments about it from outside the program.

I have somehow managed to speak with a lot of coaches from around the country. They all speak very highly of the LadyVol program, coaches and facilities. Im very glad to have my kid associated with all of this.

I didn't know she had accepted a job at OD, that's great...I'm a very casual fan know little about her coaching ability but did appreciate her when she rowed...

Years ago I had family in the program but and just happened to get to know Laura when she hung around the dog park with her pup.....she seems like a very solid person....

I only know here through her interactions with my daughter, but it is very easy to see from there that she is a high quality individual, and going to be a great coach. I wish her the very best, and an eventual return back to Rocky Top!!

I have not had a chance to check them out yet. I took some time and went to my HS Class reunion in Michigan. (uhhh...errrrrrr....a little moonshine was involved...and being a non-drinker I have to say it still took its toll on me!!! ok, mostly non drinker)

I will try to get back here later tonight. Still catching up with the wife and kids, so have not been on here much lately.

Will work on getting some better film to be "critiqued" here!!:loco::)
