New University of Tennessee baseball coach Dave Serrano has made quite a splash in recruiting in his first few weeks on the job, bringing in five of the highest rated players in the state of Tennessee in the last two weeks alone.

Tuesday morning, he added a sixth.

Morristown West’s Andrew Lee, a rising senior, committed to play for the Volunteers in 2012, ending a long recruiting process for the 6’5 right hander.

Lee, who had not seriously considered Tennessee under the previous coaching staff, mentioned the success of Serrano in his stops at Cal State-Fullerton and UC Irvine as a determining factor in his decision to head to Knoxville.

I'm really loving this coach. I used to find out about baseball recruits when KNS wrote a story after they were already here. I'm really happy to see baseball get as much attention as it currently is. It's also great to see some of this local talent finally going to UT!!

Is this a case of where're getting whats left or are kids buying into the new coaches. I've heard the other guys are getting instate kids also like Stephen Gant and of course Phifer. (who is healthy)

Simcox was wanted by Vandy, USC and UF I believe. Gant committed to Vandy before Serrano was hired as did Phieffer.

We won't get every player that we go head to head with against Vandy, but at least we have a shot now. Even Lee admitted he had no interest in us while Raleigh was here...which is shocking!
