Vols pluck junior college tight end Mychal Rivera
Tight end Mychal Rivera (Santa Clarita, Calif./College of the Canyons) has committed to Tennessee, ESPN's JC Shurburtt reports.

The 6-foot-4 240-pounder picked the Vols over Kansas State. He made his decision Wednesday night during a meeting with Vols assistants at his home.

South Carolina, Syracuse and Utah State also extended scholarship offers.

Rivera signed with Oregon out of Birmingham High in Los Angeles before spending this season at the College of the Canyons.

On another note, not trying to hijack the thread....

How would these California Junior Colleges do in the Southern Conference against schools like App. St., UTC, etc? We seem to be pluckin a few out of the JC ranks and jus wanted some opinions from you guys about the overall talent level in those schools compared to the lesser conferences in the U.S. Anyone got any clue?
