Wow, we're really getting them young now. He is huge for a sophomore, though.

Well now Fulmer surely deserves 6 more years so he can see if this kid is the saviour of the program.

Notes
• Here's a look ahead at Jack Britt High; Class of 2011 tight end/offensive line prospect Eric Maclain is one to keep an eye on. The 6-foot-5, 270-pounder already holds a verbal scholarship offer (schools can't offer in writing until Sept. 1 of a prospect's junior year) from Tennessee and is getting attention from a number of other programs. Maclain likely projects as an offensive lineman in college because of his size.

The area football scoreboard operators were busy Saturday as Jack Britt set a school record for points scored in a game with a 68-13 defeat of Pine Forest, while South View blanked Gray’s Creek 55-0.
The Buccaneers scored 54 points in the first two quarters as they reached the end zone on eight of their nine first-half possessions.
Senior running back Tremale France scored three touchdowns and finished with 70 yards on 10 carries. Senior quarterback Everett Proctor scored twice and added a 12-yard touchdown pass to sophomore tight end Eric MacLain. Junior Eric Johnson rushed for 141 yards on five attempts and scored two touchdowns for the 2-0 Buccaneers

Interesting article, Rex. I hope you don't mind me posting a few more quotes that stuck out to me.

It wasn’t the game that stood out to the McLains; it was UT head coach Phillip Fulmer’s response when he visited with several UT prospects and their family.

“After the debacle of the Florida game, coach Fulmer came in and talked to the people there,” Eric MacLain’s father, Michael MacLain, said. “The passion in his voice is what you’re looking for.”

Michael MacLain said the family was also impressed with how UT’s players responded to the loss. There wasn’t any smiling faces among the downtrodden group.

“That speaks to the merits of the whole program,” Michael MacLain said.

The MacLains, who have family ties to Powell and Knoxville, knew they wanted their son to go to UT following that Florida visit. And with other schools calling, they decided they’d end it early.

“I don’t want them to be misled,” Michael MacLain said. “Let’s make this official.”

UT’s engineering program also factored into the decision.

Eric MacLain selected Jack Britt High School in order to take part in a special engineering program they offer. He has a 4.36 grade point average.

This isn't even newsworthy. If everything were fine and dandy, this commitment wouldn't mean much 2 years in advance.
