The source links will say dailykos, but this is from pollster.com. The first map shows polling as of now, with Obama holding a 283-255 lead, the yellow on the second map shows all states within 10 points. 15 of those states were red in '04, 6 were blue. I would expect Massachusetts and New Jersey to slide more towards Obama in the coming months, along with Pennsylvania. The important thing about these maps are that without carrying Florida, Missouri or Michigan, Obama is still the projected winner as of this moment.

Anyone that thinks this election will be anything other than close is either a) hoping for a bombshell or b) not looking at the data.

According to SurveyUSA John McCain currently holds a 7 point lead, outside of the margin for error yes, but still close.

Dang. Obama is down 7 to a guy that belongs to the same party as Bush, in the middle of a "recession" with an unpopular war. Not very inspiring.

I would expect states like Alaska, Montana, and North Dakota to go red in November. However, any Democrat has got to be excited about that much of the red map being in play.

Oh I thought you meant down 7 nationally. Either way, tight race for Obama considering all the negatives associated with McCain.

It's not surprising considering that he has yet to really start his general campaign outside of some minor spats with McCain. Tomorrow the generals begin, and you should see most states shift back to their traditional voting patterns, but there will be some interesting things in play this year. Mississippi isn't close now, but I expect it to be competitive. The black population in Texas should pull that race a bit closer too. I don't expect Obama to win either, but it should be at least something to watch.

You really think Hillary is going to concede? And go away quietly?

It's sad to see how many people in this country actually think Marxism/Socialism with an American twist has a chance of succeeding.

That is what is so disgusting about the whole notion of it working.

When has it ever worked?

I know we are American and we can make every thing, but really..............

Just like this idiotic Cap and Trade bill getting voted on pretty soon. Destroy the American economy just so the left and the enviro-RINOs can feel good and tell the folks in Mauritania that they can pollute all they want.

The sad thing is that the republican party as it currently stands has made so many want change so badly they will embrace socialism. The republican party bears a lot of the blame for this.

KB,

You and I may lean slightly differently politically, but I really dig your points. I think you've hit the nail on the head.

The problem is capitalism, at this current rate, is only working for a select few, so some balance back the other way seems safe to people.

I think the old saying that the Democrats have no ideas and the Republicans have bad ones is dead on here. We've had nearly a decade of bad ideas and everyday people just want change. It works the other way too, but Bush and his guys have done so badly, with so little remorse, that this is the backlash.

The bill will never pass for now... next year may be a different story, and that's scary.

But you know MCCain/Obama won't veto like Bush will.

You know if the American people do not call their congressman and tell them we do not want a 4 trillion tax increase......................

You know, I had better get used to my car running on corn fuel......
