New overtime rules adopted

They should just put the ball on the 50 yard line in the middle of the field and have both teams put 11 players in each of their own respective endzones. On the whistle they charge the ball and whoever gets it, takes the ball on offense. First to score wins.

Hmmm. I like the current NFL playoff rules better than college overtime rules. To each his own, I guess.

Why don't they just simplify it and say each team gets an offensive possession in OT, after that it's sudden death? I don't get why they have to complicate it.

Sounds a bit crazy, but I think all football should adopt soccer rules -- just play extra periods until somebody is a winner at the end. Maybe shorter though, like ten minutes.

It all comes down to the kicker anyways, right? :)

College's OT is far better than the NFL, but I still think extra periods would be the fairest way to solve it. College OT eliminates special teams.

Still, a very significant portion of the game that goes completely unaccounted for in determining the winner.

I like the college rules better, but I would like to see them move it back to the 40 or 45 and at least make them get a first down to be in scoring position.

College OT rules are meh...the way it should be each team gets a possession after the coin flip, then sudden death after each...I think someone even mentioned this. That's for only 15 minute period though. That's all. After that it's a tie.

I never understood why college needed OT to begin with. I like the original idea of just having ties.

Hell, the NFL still allows for ties.

I hate ties. Ties = no resolution.

Having said that I do kind of like the NHL's system of getting some reward for an OT loss.
