I will not try to make any excuses for some of the play from our team, questionable play calling, or lack of development that was apparent this year. However, now that the season is over, there are some things that we need to keep in perspective.
1. We played 3 quarterbacks. We were literally down to the third string guy for half the season. Worley looked pretty shake when he was in the game. But everyone else looked way worse. Next year Worley will be back. His only real competition will be Ferguson. Untested but full of promise.
2. There seems to be a tectonic shift in the SEC in relation to pecking order. At the beginning of the season, I don't think anyone on the planet would have thought FLORIDA would be in free fall and Missouri would be a juggernaut. We thought that we would easily beat Missouri at the beginning of the season. I think we directly caused the free fall of Florida due to injuries suffered when playing us. I would have preferred the win but I will have to live with trashing their season and likely costing Muschamp his job.
3. Georgia was an eyelash away from a win for us. That was despite how bad we are. That was a Georgia team with Murray at the helm in his senior year.
4. We lost to Vandy. It makes me want to puke that we aren't even the best team in our state. So long as Franklin is at Vandy, they will be a formidable foe. This is not your fathers Vandy team . Dispute our horrible play, we were one questionable call away from winning that game.
5. We were all counting Auburn as a win. Enough said.
6. Despite it all, we have one of the top recruiting classes.

That being said, I think we should take this season with a grain of salt. This should have been a lot worse than it was. We have a tremendous upside coming into next year. While we aren't going to win the SEC East next year, we are going to get those close games that we lost this year. We are going to beat Vandy, Georgia, and Florida next year. Go Vols!

What I like about next year is that a lot of teams will be starting new QBs. Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina. While, those teams are further along as far as having their systems already in place. We will have 2 QBs that have at least played a few games and have experience. I know we have a great recruiting class so far but we will have to replace a lot of people also. The line is my main concern going into next year. If we can get a good line to give our young QBs some time and our running backs some holes. I think our WRs will be a lot better with year of playing time and another spring and summer to get in sync with the QBs. If our defense can keep getting better or at least keep us in games. I think we have a good chance at a 7-5 season or better if we get some breaks. Also, we play some of our toughest rivals at home next year. I like Butch and I hope things start quickly for us next year.

What im excited about is that the system is in place. Next spring they want be learning the system. They will be expanding on it. Thats got to get some of you excited. Now i think the filling of some holes starts. This year was more like a patch and see type of approach. There is better things coming for this team. Next year we want see a turn around like Missouri or Auburn. But who knows. No one saw their turn around either. GBO!!!!!!

No......he didn't. He had some struggles but In case you're not aware................he was a true freshman!!

Get real.

Yes and so is Jameis Winston at FL. ST. and Johnny Manziel was last yr. Fr. is an excuse anymore. Bray played lights out when got his shot as a freshman. Sorry if you can play it doesn't take yrs anymore! These guys are playing football yr around with teams and camps.

Worley/Fergurson will battle for the starting job. Dobbs is a back up! Peterman clipboard holder.

Winston and Manziel were redshirt freshmen. Dobbs wasn't even an EE and he split 3rd team practice reps with Ferguson.

Those guys are the exceptions, not the rule. Do I need to list all the freshman that struggle? As they say......

C'mon man!

I have been saying this about other teams with new QBs. It's going to be extremely difficult for Bama, Georgia and SC to replace their QBs. I am not saying those teams don't have depth but to say they can just switch those guys out for new guys is insane.

I thin a 7-5 season will be easily attainable next year. Butch won 5 games while playing the toughest schedule in school history. 2 more wins with an easier schedule is well within reach. Also I think 8 wins is possible if we improve as much as I think we will in the offseason.

After Alabama's historic loss Saturday, do you think they will go after Butch in the offseason? If that happens, any chance we take the risk and try and hire Saban? Go Vols!

There's a lot of room between "easily attainable" and "within reach" imo. We have a shot at 7-5 next year, but OU isn't an easy OOC win. I'll be happy with 6-6 next season.

Let's see, UGA's backup QB threw for 300 yards and a win. Spurrier will have his QB position fillied, I promise. And I'm sure Saban has an idea who will replace McCarron.

Hell, UT couldn't beat UF with a back-up that had never taken a snap before in a game.

Both Manziel and Winston are second year Freshman, big difference.

Bray started in January unlike Dobbs, so bray had 20 practices in backup role. Bray took over half way through the SC game and had 2 turnovers. Then he played the cupcakes rest of the year, Memphis, Vandy, Ky. Bray also had a Denarius Moore (Junior), Gerald Jones (Senior) and Luke Stocker (Senior).

Dobbs came in against Alabama and started against the eventual east/ west champions and then Vandy and Ky. He has true Freshmen and Sophmores catching the ball for him.

I don't think Dobbs was ready but cause of injuries CBJ had no option and he did decent job. Think next year we'll see good things from our QB's.

vandy formidable franklin.

Let me make this clear. How clear. Crystal clear---- the only reason vandy is any factor is because Derek Dooley was at the helm the last 3 years at UT. In two years tops the natural order will be restored.
