We just got our new puppy, a mini dauschaund whom is 8 weeks old today. We are trying to get him trained to quit barking when he isn't in our lap, and to pee and poo on the puppy pads we have laid down in the kitchen.

Are there any pet owners with some sound advice out there?

I left him alone today in the kitchen (we have a gate up) and when I came back he was fine. I was gone about 2 hr's and 15 mins. Since I got home, I have had him with me, except for a few times so he could eat and do his buisness, which he is still doing everywhere but the puppy pads.

Any help out there?

Put him in a playpen that has the bottom covered with puppy pads. He can't go on your floor, but he isn't cooped up in a crate either. When he gets used to the puppy pads, you should be able to take him out and he'll go on the puppy pads still. I would only leave him in the playpen while I was away if I were you, though.

Or take note of the places that the dog is going and put the puppy pads over those spots. As long as it's not in the middle of the hallway or something.

If that doesn't work, get out the taser gun....

Good luck!!! Training is not my strong points. My Weim stays in the backyard and my little dog inside was trained when we got her!! (luckily!!!)

And what name have you gave it? Not that it would be any help as for the training. Just curious? Smokey sounds nice

I'll get some pictures up as soon as I can. We are so busy with the move and the wedding and Smokey that I'm more pressed for time.

He is a mini black and tan, short hair, dapple dauschaund, and we named him Smokey because he looks like a mini version. :rocks:

Does anyone know how i can teach my dog to stop barking late at night?? It seems like thats the only time she barks, when im tryin to go to sleep and shes always right below my window and i never get any sleep. I live kinda on a ranch so there are always animals runnin around everywhere..but im about ready to shoot her cause she wont stop barking...

We got a new puppy about 4 months ago. We got her from a shelter and she was about 8 weeks old. Lots of dauschaund in her but lots of something else. Longer legs than a normal 'dottie' and her tail is long and hairy (as well as her curly ears).

Here is a pic of her right after we got her.

The collar has already been bought, as well as a jersey, but he is too small for both of them.

When he grows to the size he should stay, I am going to have someone make him one of those "blanket" type things that the REAL Smokey wears, and take some pictures.

Thanks 24/7.

The sleeping is much better now that we gave him a blanket to sleep on in the kitchen floor. I don't think we are going to crate train him now. I just don't see the reason to, considering we are always going to let him rome in the kitchen.

The potty training is coming slower. He is pooping and peeing a lot on his blanket for some reason, which is a shock to me. We have down some papers, and he goes on them too, just not all the time yet. I think he will learn though.

Cute pups, both of them. Good luck with training them. Those hounds can be stubborn sometimes. It took forever, seemingly, to train my bassett hound.
