The problem with recruiting is that while the rankings are what the fans are looking at, filling needs is what the coaches are looking at, and their perspective is much more important for the longer term health and prosperity of our program.
Frankly, I could care less where rivals ranks our program, but even so, I would be shocked if we do not close out with virtually a completely 4 star or higher group of players -- not because we are looking for the star rankings, but because the players we are closing in on are all 4* players (with at least one 5* in the mix).
I would also note that with Rivals cutting back on how many 4-5*'s they give out, comparing the number of those type players in this year's class to previous years is inherently misleading. Finally, I think it is fair to say that Rivals has fallen a long way in the quality of their product, which is player and team rankings. For Farrell to say that we somehow have fallen down on our recruiting is the pot calling the kettle black -- there are a number of our recruits that they admit they have not even looked at this year.
The bottom line is the quality of the team that Dooley and company are able to put on the field over the next few years, and going through our list of commitments plus the ones we are in very good standing with at the moment, I am very excited at what Coach Dooley has done to date. The future is looking far better than at any time in the past 5-6 years or more.
