Great news for local sports talk radio listeners! JM Ramsey and his buddy BT (Brian Tate) will be launching their show, The Sunday Drive on AM 850, Sundays at 12:00-2:00P.M. starting August 27. The show will offer diverse coverage of most major sports on the local and national level--NCAA football and basketball, NFL, NBA, baseball, as well as high school sports--BT has done some great work calling the West High School basketball games.
These guys are young, but they know their sports and the traditions of the past...should be a great show.
I encourage local listeners to give these new guys a listen and call in if that's your thing.

This just in...JM Ramsey a.k.a. jmxvol likes to beat up on women. Boycot his radio show. People like this shouldn't even be a functioning part of society, much less have their own radio show.

JMX is the one doing the show. :eek:lol:

Get ready to hear sheep references every 5 minutes.

Wow, UTVol0427! You don't pull punches do ya? I don't know where you get your info, but the JM I know is NOTHING like you described. He may post on boards with a "demeanor" and be sh@t stirrer with his comments, but in the real world, he is a great guy.

Should we boycott UT football because of the many criminals who suit up in orange and white? C'mon, now.

Personally, I would stick a hot needle through my eye than listen to JMX talk about stuff, but that's just me.

Exactly. We all know that "true" UT fans would rather listen to a jounalistic giant like Jimmy Hyams tell us that Vicki Fulmer and Olivia Manning are wonderful cooks. That's great radio.

No I don't "pull punches". I know where I get my info and the JM I know is EXACTLY like I described. It has nothing to do with what he posts on boards and no he isn't a "great" guy in the real world.

What local show do you prefer then if you had to list one?

I don't really hear the local shows enough anymore to have a favorite. Chris Lowe's guest appearances were about the only thing I heard with any redeeming value for the last couple of years I lived in Knoxville.

I figured. Lowe is not bad once the season gets into full swing. I haven't heard a whole lot out of him recently.

I guess my point is that Jimmy Hyams may be a homer (ok, is a homer) but it's about the only source of true information on the Vols on the radio around here on a daily basis.

This Saturday show may be entertaining and fun for them but someone looking for up to the minute information is going to get it from SportsTalk not from a weekly 2 hour show on Saturday. No offense to JM and his friend or any other weekly show.

I generally like the Animal when Jerry Punch is on (unless they are talking NASCAR). He brings objectivity to the show.

A prime example of the kind of infomation and access that SportsTalk has. It's unmatched. Even I wish they had more competition, but they don't.

The host that 990 replaced with Jim Rome seemed to have potential. That move puzzled me. I'm a huge fan of Rome, but it doesn't take an expert in the radio industry to figure out that his show is not going to play well in Knoxville. The listeners in K-Town are very provincial. They want to hear local hosts talking about local topics.

I didn't even now they replaced Rome. I listened to him from time to time. I tend to enjoy his dry humor. He's had me laughing so hard I had to pull over.

I think people do need to have at least a couple of good local options. We can listen to ESPN radio or Fox and we can watch SportsCenter and FSN on TV at night. I don't think you can blame people for enjoying local shows with information that only pertain to this area. I mean, let's face it, I don't want to spend an hour out of my day listening to an interview with the Second Baseman for the Floida Marllins.

Dan Uggla played for the Smokies. Doesn't that make an interview with him a "local" story?

As far as I know, Rome is still in that time slot in Knoxville. I was talking about the host whose showed got bumped when Rome was added to the 990 lineup.

Sorry, I misread your post. I can't remember who was on 990 before Rome took that Spot. Anyone remember?

My use of the Marlins Second Baseman was only an analogy. I have no idea who even plays there.

Dave Nathan.
They moved his "Sports Lounge" show to 9:00am for a while. Now I don't think he even has a show because they expanded Mickey Dearstone's show to 3 hours.:hmm:

I know. Just having a little fun with you. I think Dave Nathan was the host I referenced. He seemed to have a pretty good grasp of things. The only issue I had with him was that he tried too hard to be funny and clever. Hosts should stick to their respective strengths. For example, Jimmy Hyams should stick to telling us what Archie Manning's favorite golf course is.

Ahh, Dave Nathan. I was thinking that was who it was.

Isn't he still around somewhere?
