New starting lineup

Nared, Nared, Nared, Nared, and Nared.

I like that line-up. I would build the substitution rotation around Nared, Nared and Nared. I think an 8 Nared rotation would be the ticket to developing great chemistry,.

In all seriousness, once JN shook the rust off (I hated to see her go out early with fouls), she is the one player who is combining athleticism and skill.

Of course, DeShields has that quality but, right now, for every positive play, she is giving up a negative one - a poor shot, turnover or tonight, abysmal defense.

The second foul on Nared was a phantom one. The PAC 10 officials struck tonight, 25 fouls called on Tennessee vs 12 called against Stanford. To be clear though, that was not the reason Tennessee lost. But it sure didn't help.

Nared managed 12 points in 22 minutes in her first game back so that should definitely make her a starter going forward.
Dunbar needs more time even if she is a defensive liability 3 points in 6 minutes of play averages out to 15 in 30 minutes. I see no reason for Reynolds to get 20 minutes she was 0 for 20 minutes and is almost as much a defensive liability as Dunbar.
Russell got six total shots made 3. I guess part of the problem is she does not work hard enough to get open. She is a high percentage shooter when we get her the ball she should have more than six attempts.
Diamond has not been the super star we hoped she would be to this point. She is a very good player makes a huge contribution to the team but is no savior. She was 6 for 16 for the game and has shot in the 30's for the season. That is still better than almost everyone on the team.
We might struggle to get to the NCAA this season fourth loss coming up Saturday and then we have Notre Dame for a fifth loss. The SEC could be very tough see at least four losses hopefully not more. We could easily record ten losses with this group and that is borderline NCAA.

Top five finish in the SEC will guarantee a spot. Performing very well in the SEC tournament would help as well (no first round loss).

The team isn't playing well, but I think they get into the dance.

Agreed. 7 SEC teams made the NCAAT last season. LSU got in with a 17-14 record (10-6 in the SEC) and Arkansas got in with a 18-14 record (6-10 in the SEC !). As poorly as they are playing, the wheels would have to fall off completely for this team to not make the NCAAT.

How times have changed! I remember when the goal every year was to win a national championship. Now the goal is to be one of the 64 teams invited into the tournament? Really?

It's not a goal per se. No LV fan will be "happy" if they just squeeze into the NCAAT. It's a concern because of how poorly the team is currently playing. The goal is always a NC.

How silly. we have what we have this year. So yes one goal would be making the tournament.

Certainly getting in isn't the goal for the team or the fans. My post was replying to others that said the team wouldn't make the NCAAT.

You tried to spin it and say this is now the "goal".

You're enjoying this rough patch in the first third of the season. Just try to play nice.

Carter (decent D, level head and can create her own shot)
DD
Nared
Dunbar
Graves

Russell is soft as butter with brick for hands. She needs to be in the weight room constantly, and please make her eat ... bulk is needed with that height. My 10-year-old niece could shove her around.

Reynolds's and Moore's scholarships should be revoked or at least only be practice players.

Middleton is a non-entity but can create her own shot, but she needs to hit the first attempt each game to have the proper confidence. Sad but true.

Cooper needs to learn the lesson that she's no longer top dog and definitely not in high school any longer. The college game is too fast for her right now. She needs to sit, absorb, take a deep breath and calm down.

Meme has potential, but she needs time to learn the complexities of the game under a quality coach. Love her hops and speed.

Jones can't stay healthy, and her basketball IQ is subpar. She's basically another Holly bust.

If we do hire a new coach, especially a good evaluator and developer of talent, three or four of these young ladies "may" transfer. This is fine. We need a fresh start!

Russell was the most over-rated #1 recruit of All Time to this point in her career. Totally soft. like hot butter, :(

I still believe our starting lineup should be;
PG-Cooper
SG-MeMe
SF-Diamond
PF-Nared
C-Graves

If you watched the game last night Cooper and MeMe's chemistry is great and they work well together(but for some reason Holly never gives them time). Cooper has shown she can get to the rim and the layups aren't falling as of yet because she is trying to (or use to) draw contact for the and 1. Russell needs to prove that she should be a starter. She is getting destroyed by girls that are 4 to 5 inches shorter than her. Diamond is a stud/star and she just simply do not trust players who she feel isn't up to the quality she feels they should be which is why she takes a lot of shots because she feels she has to especially when holly puts her on the floor with Jordan (who I do not understand why she is being given so many minutes, she wont shoot, she wont drive and when she does shoot it is always a bad shot) I would love for Holly to just sit and let the other coaches coach like she did during the overseas trip (on that trip the team played its best when Elzy was the coach)

There are so many things wrong with this team one doesn't know where to start.

First, we have players who are rather lackadaisical on defense--who aren't committed to it, from an effort standpoint, and/or aren't good enough at defending their opponent. I put Reynolds, Cooper and DeShields at the top of the mediocre defense list.

Second, I've been a bit disappointed with DeShields. I think she's had to adjust to missing a year, had to adjust to her shin-split issue--and she probably, like everyone, doesn't know what to make of our crap offensive system. Sometimes she come down and make passes and then sometimes, probably because whatever system we have isn't working, she'll come down the floor and just do her thing and either score or miss. She has not shot especially well this year. Also, her body language and attitude don't seem great at times--she seems moody, no?

Third, I'm beginning to think that maybe Russell's minutes should be reduced. She is not giving us much on offense and only a little on defense. Decent rebounder but her impact has been less than expected. Unless we are playing a team with a good, big center inside, do we really need Russell inside? Why not play Dunbar more? She's got some height and she's someone who can shoot--which we desperately need. With her, Graves and, say, Nared, we ought to be able to rebound well enough. I would reduce Russell's minutes, try new lineups, and see if there is improvement. Russell works hard, she hasn't been bad by any means, but she hasn't been good. Of course, /nobody/ has been good, and everyone on the team should have their PT reduced, but it's not possible.

Fourth, We've been getting killed by Reynolds and Cooper. They have both been net negatives, big-time: very little offense, mediocre defense, few assists. Maybe go to a bigger lineup and reduce minutes with these two.

Warlick should try some new personnel and see if anything clicks. I'd like to see more of Nared, Dunbar and maybe even Middleton and less of Reynolds, Cooper and Russell. And maybe play more zone. Carter, DeShields, Graves, Nared and one other player zone could be very effective, with effort.

I like your thinking but as a freshman I don't think Cooper is getting the coaching she needs from her Head Coach who once played the Point Guard position which is very troublesome for me. Cooper has blown by everyone who has guarded her this season and when she gets to the rim she dishes it to the Post (Russell) like she's asked to only for Russell to not catch the ball or she kicks it out to Reynolds or Carter (only for them not to shoot the ball) When Holly had the lineup of Graves, Carter, Nared, Diamond, and Cooper on the floor and we cut the lead to 5 (or 6) Diamond and the defense was clicking on all cylinders only for Holly to call a timeout (when we had the momentum in our favor) and sub in Russell and Reynolds who hadn't done anything all night. Its like she's loyal to some and envious/petty of others. She isn't the answer (Holly) and we will continue to lose these games that we could easily win as long as she is at the helm.

Isn't Dean Lockwood in charge of our post players? He needs fired too.[/QUOTE

People always reference him for Izzy's growth but i specifically remember reading izzys boyfriend that played on mens team now in the NBA worked with her over the summer before her junior year and that's where her post game really developed. Izzy does give dean credit for some things but if you reflect no other posts players really developed the way they should have. Basharra should be an AA, but no teaching. Moore showed flashes last year. Moore like Middleton and the rest of them that ride the bench you cant put them in the 3rd quarter for 2 mins and expect them to really make a difference with no flow to the game. Most of them are scared to mess up or miss because they know they're coming out. Middleton barely looks to score anymore. She just dribbles

Great analysis.Relieve Holly and put Elzy in charge and maybe this team's latent talent can be realized.

Lots of coaching problems with this team. But there are also things wrong with this team from a player perspective. One of those being DD, who most fans think it so amazing. After her season at NC, and now the first part of this season, my evaluation is that she is not a 'winning' basketball player. She is a talented and skilled player. But she is a stats player. A 'me' player. Not a player putting all her energy and effort into winning. Defensive effort is very poor. She does nothing to help the team on offense when the ball is not in her hands. Does not facilitate any offense. Poor shot selection because she does not trust anybody on the court but herself. She will have a college and pro career that will look good on stat sheets and look bad in the win column.

This thread is too focused on the players. It doesn't matter which players we have. As long as we have this coach we're going to be bad.

I don't really like what I've seen from DeShields at times this year. Her defensive effort has often been pretty weak, and her body language is not positive. We need her to be a leader on this team--but that starts with giving full effort all the time, and I haven't seen that with her, and it also includes encouraging your teammates, which I don't see much of either. We have a poor leader at the top, and we have little leadership on the floor, and that's the first and biggest problem with the team. And then our coaches seem lacking in tactical/teaching fundamentals that shows up in our pathetic, hard-to-watch offense. The team is a mess.
