New Transfer Rule

At first glance, the rule seems to beg for abuse, but it's hard to argue with the logic behind it. I doubt we'll see any stars transferring, but like the writer said, we might see some backup QBs and mid major players jump ship looking for exposure. If they've achieved the primary goal of college - graduation - why shouldn't they be able to use their final year of eligibility at whatever grad school they choose?

or we could see some of our career backups jumping to mid-majors so they can start a game

Vanderbilt just picked up a sr. QB from Arizona via this route. Don't recall his name, but the guy apparently had some starts the past couple years and figures to compete for the job vacated by Cutler....

it's good if we get a good transfer, it's bad if one leaves us. How bout that?

I think it's a fair rule. Just as fair as a player leaving a year early.I can also see schools such as Stanford (33,000 tuition per year)transfering in a player with all the prestige that comes from having a masters from there. That's reality IMO.

I don't think it will be abused because the kids already have to have their degree and really, how many athletes will that cover? I agree, makes to much sense to be a NCAA rule so it must have been somebody elses idea.

I'd like to see the first round of folks bail for another school and see how it works out before I make up my mind.

I would like to see players allowed to transfer without having to sit out a year and lose elgibility. Coaches promise them the world, then a lot of times when they get on campus they find out they had promised them the world to only get them there and it was only token promises.

I think it would cut down on some of the games and the constant pressure high school players feel to sign with a certain team. Because they are basically stuck with wherever they sign, unless they are willing to sit out a year and lose a year of elgibility.

If they were allowed to transfer, they would only lose the year they wasted at the school to find out they didn't fit in, not 2 years the way it is now. I think it would make coaches be more honest and fair in what they tell recruits in their homes, and what they tell them after they get on campus. A lot of coaches speak out of both sides of their mouth. Considering the money the players makes the schools, it seems like the least they could do. The players have a lot at stake, and they aren't being compenstated anything but tuition and room and board.
