I found it interesting when I looked at the regular season leaders in the (4) historical power conferences with of course the exception of the now-defunct PAC 12. All 4 leaders are in their first year as members of the conference. Obviously, there were new members of each that didn't do so well, but I haven't seen or heard this discussed by the media.

Big 12 > SEC- Texas
PAC 12 > Big 10 - Oregon
American Athletic > ACC - SMU
PAC 12 > Big 12 - Arizona State

I don't think TX or Oregon making it are a big deal. They were "powerhouses" in the previous conference.

SMU and ASU on the other hand (though the Big 12 isn't what it was).

Texas managing to only play the entire bottom half of the SEC (plus Georgia who they lost to) is absolutely uncanny luck.

Where the horns are concerned, luck has nothing to do with it. This was all by design, I have no doubt about that.

This last round of realignment has weakened the Big12 and ACC significantly. Especially the Big12 who added 4 g5 schools last year.

The B1G hasn't done much better although their additions on paper look pretty good. Michigan was bad this year, Oregon helped pick up some of that slack but the league added 4 teams so overall, they didn't have much depth this year.

The SEC did the opposite, they strengthened the conference overall.

There is no P4 anymore, it's at best a P2 now.
