A quote from the article: "We live in a week-to-week society of college football and it's all about winning this game," he continued. "If I had put one of the freshmen in and we'd lost the game, y'all would sitting in here saying to me, 'Why did you put the freshman in?' That's the beauty of your pen, the power of second-guessing. I've always learned to go with my gut instinct."

I don't believe in worley or any of the other qb's. We need a qb desperately next year. This year is a wash. I just hope we can win 5 games, If we win 6, Butch gets a statue. Man I hope he can pull a spade out his rear end and get a good qb for next year.

But, that's the point. We need to put our freshmen in now to build for the future. This team is not "Butch Jones" We need to be focused on improving, not the results.

If they aren't ready, they aren't ready.

To even argue your point further... by not playing them, you get them an additional calendar year. Even more longevity!

It is a little too early to judge Dobbs and Ferguson at this point.

Funny you don't believe in any of the quarterbacks when you've only had the pleasure of seeing two of the four. Lol get a hold of yourself

Worley lacks confidence in his ability and the system something Butch is trying to build with him by continuing to start him as the vols quarterback

"At the end of the day, I believe in Justin. Even throughout the course of the game, Justin needs as many repetitions, just like the freshmen do. As much as repetitions he can gain, the better as well."

I wonder what the Freshmen do in practice to warrant NOT playing. Obviously full grasp of the offense, but I wonder what other functionally-related things they don't have yet.

Fergie may be like Sunshine from Remember the Titans and send Ray Drew over his shoulder while tossing a touchdown.

What would you expect CBJ to say!?!? If he came out and said

"Well, Worley isn't any good, but I don't have another option at this point, so I guess we are stuck with him until the freshmen mature"

Would that make the fanbase feel better?

I think even those who would like to see a true freshman playing can admit there really wasn't an opportune time to play one against S. Alabama.

Don't piss down my neck and tell me it's raining. He is saying what he needs to, I understand that. But don't expect me to belly up to the buffet to gobble it down.

Yep, he already got a bad dose of medicine starting a freshman vs Florida. Rock meet hard place.

"I am playing Dobbs and Ferguson this weekend."

That will shut us up either way. If they stink it up and we lose, we all look like idiots and if we win, then we don't give a **** anyways because we just beat Georgia.

I agree but that is kind of ironic also since Worley was one of the main reasons that there wasn't that opportunity... :)

Possibly checking into the right play before snap. Recognizing the defense. Making split second decisions without turning the ball over. I can say that at least Worley has been able to check into the correct play. We all saw that Peterman had trouble recognizing the defenses and checked into the wrong play a couple of times. Held the ball too long on a couple of plays and basically was not ready for live action. And Peterman has been in a college program for a full year. So he should be use to the speed of the game as well as the different defenses that are run.

We've seen Worley and we've seen Peterman. And both have been as bad as any FBS level QB I've ever seen. We're talking about not even being able to complete a pass 5 yards over the middle. We're talking about constant turnovers.

If neither of the freshman can play better than that, even at this point in time, then why did we even recruit them? Why do we think they could ever become quality starters?

CBJ might hope Worley can step it up and he might have seen flashes of potential, but Worley's gameday performance is not confidence-inspiring. Worley has had 5 INTs in the past 6 qtrs, and his only consistency is missing receivers. He works hard and is a high-character kid, but he's not a good QB for CBJ's system. Misplaced confidence won't make it so.

If CBJ goes after a JUCO QB, we know we're probably in big trouble for '14....... (unless that JUCO is a Cam Newton type player).

It's kind of funny.... I said before the S. Alabama game that Worley may need to throw those INTs to get them out of his system so he can stop overthinking and just play. Bray had to and kept throwing them even after. JW's biggest problem has been playing too conservative and overthinking throws when he should go for it. That's when his passes have lacked zip.

As ugly as it was in the second half, I think that game was a confidence building exercise for Worley and the receivers and that was the plan from the start (not for S. Alabama to make a comeback but for the game to be all about getting Worley and the receivers better in tune with one another).

As strange as it sounds, our schedule has made it so that was the first full game that Worley and 1st team WRs have played together.
