No doubt that is what is happening. It sounds crazy, but right now he would be the candidate that a lot of conservatives got behind by default.

According to James Dobson's website Newt has gotten down on his knees and begged forgiveness for all of his previous transgressions.

If Newt's not careful he's likely to steal the panderer title away from one of the other candidates...whoever's day it is at that moment in time since it seems to be on rotation.

he's following the election formula, secure the base for the primaries, move to the middle for the general election.

Newt knows how the game is played. This can also be seen as a preemptive strike against Giuliani and Romney, both of whom will have trouble securing the Christian Conservative base and McCain's troubles in South Carolina are legend.

Then again, Newt hasn't said one way or the other if he's even going to seek the nomination (unless I've missed something).

I've volunteered for the man, my mother worked on his first two campaigns, and I know a few people in his circle of five here in GA....he's never moved to the middle on anything. He will meet you in the middle to discuss but he's pretty committed on his beliefs. If anything, he'd move further to the right.

Too early. A lot of time between now and election....I honestly don't think Hillary's kept her closet clean since leaving the WH. Who knows what may come out. But yeah, she's the one to beat now.
