The lack of effort that was evident in the Missouri game was indeed concerning, but I hope to see Butch Jones take control of this team and play with emotion and great pride the last 3 games. For the Vols to become bowl eligible they must play with much more discipline and desire to win. I hope this Vol squad doesn't fold the last 3 games, time will tell.

The only thing the last three games will prove is how vastly inexperienced and under talented this Tennessee squad actually is. Jones and Co. Have very little to work with. Give them time and talent and we'll all be pleased with the product.

Do not count on miracles as long as we have an abundance of mediocre players on this team. The team will gradually get better as these players are phased out.

We get that, you fools said this about Dooley until the day he walked out of Knox with $5 million and went to Dallas. The point is, show determination and effort and make a bowl game. Something even this dissaster of a roster should be able to do over Vandy and Kentucky. Keep it respectable with Auburn is all we ask.

If we beat Auburn we don't have to rely on beating Vandy. The joy they would take in beating us and keeping us from a bowl game would be quite nauseating.

Only a fool would believe this.

Don't throw me in the "Dooley" category. I, from day one, knew we were outmatched with that clown as our HC. When your best attribute as a head football coach is your last name and southern charm, that my friend is a failure waiting to happen. Butch Jones has a proven record of success, loyal staff, and is assembling the best recruiting class in the nation. I am pleased with the hire, as anyone should be.

Well put.

This team is at a significant talent disadvantage relative to the teams in the SEC that matter. That much is clear through 9 games.

That won't be the case if Butch and Co can land the 2014 class he's pulling together over the den of negativity constantly imminating from the unrealistic elements of our fanbase.

Agree 100%.

Nobody expected a rose garden with this season.

6-6 with a bowl game would be a huge success given the losses on Offense and the schedule.

Great recruiting class.

There are a lot of positives to see.

at least we have a timely bye week that should virtually guarantee a win over vandy. i would be pretty impressed if we showed up with some heart after the last 2 games. we look outmatched and exhausted.

He has control of the team. He has coached them up. Saturday night we just saw the pure talent coming out. Example: Child learns to walk, child walks fine, child falls. You can't make chicken salad out of chicken $hit.

USC was coming off a Bye and Jones has a pretty good record in his career coming off a Bye.

Vandy is playing out to be one of the, if not the, biggest game of the year for UT.

3 games left... 2 at home... we have totally sucked on the road so............
I agree with OP... last 3 years we would not win 2 games.
if Butch is who most of us think he is.. we win 2 games and go to a bowl

I don't know how people live their lives in such a negative way. His FIRST SEASON isn't even over yet and people are whining and complaining, asking if the coach "has control of the team". Good grief why be so miserably negative every minute of your life??

It's a long season, physically and mentally demanding. Toughest Schedule in the Nation.

In spite of all that CBJ will have control of this team as long as he is HMFIC.

IMO, That's not the question. Will the players find another level in their tanks to be competitive. Mental Toughness is a player's individual responsibility. Especially when the team is prepared.

I get worried and relieved in the same moment when player's state that they guarantee a win and don't put forth the effort on the field (Mentality or Physically) to back it up. Oh yea, they are just kids, maybe they ought to be a man and keep their mouth shut.

Love the leadership and confidence but the effort was a far distance from getting it done.

I didn't expect much this season but I also felt 6-6 was good enough to show progress, I felt we could go 8-4 on the top end and 7-5 as a happy medium.

Execution mistakes, dropped balls and a physical beat down on both sides of the LOS equals poor performance, poor tackling and rout.

We played into Missouri hands by not running the ball and throwing it 42 times. This team played like a Dooley coached team last week. Dooley's culture +1.

The way Jones talked he would have put them in pads 24/7 even in their Sleep. If I were a player, I would be shaking in my cleats because a silent leader during adversity are the toughest Coaches to have to deal with the following week.

Butch hasn't lost the team. The team has so many losing habits ingrained in them that they are struggling to shake them when things look grim on the road.

Losing is a bad habit that the older guys just have. Butch has shown they can shake it off at home. The road has clearly been a different story

Wow, I'm really sure this 'disaster of a roster' wants to win for you!

I just want to ask.. is it me or when the defense is on a block they just seem to Stop?! Do we have anyone that can come off a block and tackle? Auburn will plan to run it down our throats I am certain of this, if the edges are not protected better Saturday we are in for a long game.

I don't think it has much to do with how much "control" he has. Winning against Mizzou and the rest would have shown that this team has turned the corner, and we could easily have closed out our recruiting class with a few other key targets we have left on the board and likely a BIG fish, like Adoree Jackson or Garrett (5*).

That loss probably cost us a chance to land either of those guys or flip a big one late before NSD. But, winning out from here on could still communicate that the program is definitely turning the corner. Losing to Auburn and beating the last 2 to barely make a bowl game makes this team barely distinguishable from the Dooley led teams.

So, yeah...they are critical. I don't think anyone expected Butch to turn the program around over night, but recruits, like most of us fans expected to see some marked improvement. 6-6 means CBJ and staff have to rely on their salesmanship rather than results.

There's a whole lot of truth to that. Been thinking the same thing. When adversity hits, they mentally just shut it down and become disengaged. What CBJ is trying to get through to them is like a foreign language.

So, the posters here are a bunch of fools and the roster is a disaster, eh? You've got a way to make friends and influence people. Sigh...

The problem last week was Missouri was the 4th difficult SEC game in a row with no breaks...Georgia, South Carolina, Bama and Missouri. All were highly ranked at the time the games were played with 3 being in the top ten with the fourth ranked 11th. If you look back on SEC history, even the great teams stumble when faced with a schedule or run of games such as this. And, as everyone in the world knows, this is not a great UT team. Auburn will be the 5th game in this run, ranked in the top ten and that scares me more than anything.

To bash this team and categorize them in the fashion you did is in incredible poor taste, and I think I'm being diplomatic in saying so. I won't even touch upon your comment that the posters are a bunch of fools...it would be a waste of time, considering the source.
