Next 3 Games may determine if Jones has control of Team

The lack of effort that was evident in the Missouri game was indeed concerning, but I hope to see Butch Jones take control of this team and play with emotion and great pride the last 3 games. For the Vols to become bowl eligible they must play with much more discipline and desire to win. I hope this Vol squad doesn't fold the last 3 games, time will tell.

Effort wasn't issue. Talent and speed were. The players didn't give up, imo.

I don't know how people live their lives in such a negative way. His FIRST SEASON isn't even over yet and people are whining and complaining, asking if the coach "has control of the team". Good grief why be so miserably negative every minute of your life??

That is what Volnation does, especially in the Football Forum. The Recruiting Forum is mostly positive. When I want some reality TV drama, I come over here. It is a guarantee that I will get pi$$ed off by a negative nancy over here.

Don't throw me in the "Dooley" category. I, from day one, knew we were outmatched with that clown as our HC. When your best attribute as a head football coach is your last name and southern charm, that my friend is a failure waiting to happen. Butch Jones has a proven record of success, loyal staff, and is assembling the best recruiting class in the nation. I am pleased with the hire, as anyone should be.

Actually his success at both CM and Cincy were with Brian Kelly's players . I am excited about what he is doing with the 2014 recruiting class . I am pleased with the hire so far , though I am not quite ready to anoint him as the second coming of The General as some are.

It's difficult to see the difference between lack of effort and complete exhaustion. A team that can't even field a full SEC first team, much less have any depth, is not going to be able to play SC and Bama back to back and look like they are full speed against Mizzou. I am as tough as anybody on the Vols and I am not happy about where we are, but this isn't on Butch. He is making the best of what he has to work with and this team has never shown anything but support for him. Butch's leadership and control over this team should not be questioned.

Do not count on miracles as long as we have an abundance of mediocre players on this team. The team will gradually get better as these players are phased out.

We are starting at ground zero as far as talent in the SEC even last years class was not top notch, that's why we got to keep this class intact I mean I know there will be 3 to 4 change like ever year but we got to replace them with better recruits so really to be a player for the SEC it will take this class and 2 more just like it to get back on top, some people wont like to wait but that's what it will take, calling it like I see it.:ermm:

I try to stay out of the Football Forum, but sometimes I get sucked in by a thread that's on the front page....

I enjoy how people like to say that the team quit as their go-to excuse for when they predict a win and then we get creamed instead.

Well to be fair , there was very little positive about the Missouri game

The only thing the last three games will prove is how vastly inexperienced and under talented this Tennessee squad actually is. Jones and Co. Have very little to work with. Give them time and talent and we'll all be pleased with the product.

That's an excuse. There is no excuse for not seeing maximum effort and improvement. Butch and his staff have to be accountable every single week, for leading the young men to have pride, give maximum effort, and show improvement as individuals and as a team. We certainly didn't see that the last two weeks.

We'll see how the season finishes, maybe we've just hit a bump in the road and Butch can fix it. But, it will be hard to believe that things will improve significantly over time, if they haven't improved at all over the course of a season.

LOL What a joke. Do you REALLY think he wasn't urging the to play with passion and maximum effort during the game and the week leading up to it?? So now he is on a week to week contract???

So let's just TOTALLY discount the roster and the fact that we were starting a freshman QB, 3 freshman WR, a freshman CB and a converted walk-on RB at the nickel along with all of the secondary depth being walk-ons and walk-on freshmen....

I don't care if he was trying to urge them or not. That he was trying goes without saying. It's about results not trying!!! He must be successful at urging them and it must show up on the field. Obviously, for whatever reason, he failed to inspire them to play with passion and maximum effort at Missouri. RESULTS are all that matters. Get it done or eventually we'll find somebody who can.

As for his contract, obviously it's not week to week, but he needs to be continuously made aware that he is responsible for the results NOW also, not just what happens 2,3, or 4 years from now. He needs to meet the standard for now, and that didn't get done against Mizzou.

IMO he has met the standard for now. Consider what he has to work with. This team is better than they were at the beginning of the season. The Mizzou game was just a bump in the road. All the potholes haven't been repaired, but they will be SOON! All in for CBJ.

The fact the you even mentioned getting rid of the coach, one who has done everything right up to this point, after 9 GAMES of his first season, tells me all I need to know about your lack of common sense. Only so much any coach can do to get results out of such a limited roster. Give this roster to saban and see what he could do with it. Good day :hi:

We have sophs, juniors, and seniors recruited by Dooley. At least next year we will have a 2/2 split with only juniors/seniors recruited by Dooley. Our current depth chart has too many Div II players on it.

Where in the h3ll are these people coming from? I don't get this kind of talk. Butch having control of the team? This team is full of (unfortunately) kids that have learned to lose and know nothing of winning. That's the product of extreme coaching turnover. We are coming up on a generation of recruits that don't know Tennessee as a winning program. Thank the heavens for this legacy class that's coming up. They will need to be the foundation.

Let Butch get his guys in. He is fighting tooth and nail to turn around bad attitudes, behaviors, and habits to establish a winning mentality.

I will admit that it is very important to get 2 out of the last 3. Butch knows this and has said as much. It's about 2 to 3 years too early for this kind of talk.

The idea that every time a team fails it's because they weren't giving good effort is completely dumb.

Good grief this place is Jekyll and Hyde.

Most of you defending Butch by using the roster excuse are the same ones that predicted wins over Oregon and Mizzou AND put Bama on upset alert.

Before the season started this place was "All Butch, All the Time!" Everything he did and the team tweeted sent this place into a frenzy. Most people had thise team at 3-5 or 4-4 headed into November.

The Auburn game sits exactly where the Mizzou game sat last year...game 10, at home. How does the team respond after a brutal stretch? That's a valid question. If Butch "gets it" as we all hope then he'll have his team prepared on Sat.

The standard includes what is accomplished on a week to week basis. He most certainly did NOT meet the standard in how his team performed against Mizzou or Alabama. It's not that we should have won, but how we played. We were pathetic, uninspired, and completely uncompetitive and there is no excuse for that, PERIOD! Right now this team has regressed back to where it was prior to the Georgia game, and that, to use Butch's own language, is UNACCEPTABLE !

You should go back to sleep. Do you really think Butch is not "IN CONTROL" of this team?

Who "CONTROLLED" you when you were 18-22 and didn't have a clue?
